A good friend of mine and owner of a bikeshop is talking of a protest ride. Get some more PR on this... the political blame game is the absolute shackle on this. No responsibility until its one of their own. There's lots of parties involved here, and perhaps the PR is whats needed...

this, the one report says guys were attacked on route to town, then on their way from the same guys were ready to attack them again... so with no consequences for these guys they'll continue to do as they please...

my guess is they just don't know... what PPA or SafeCycling could probably do is erect signs like we have at certain robots on the Cape Flats/Townships warning of high crime and or hijacking area. Even if its just on the light poles

Indeed. While it is harder to put 12 people together it doesn't stop from entering or not entering. As said earlier you only need 6 to get a finish time. If its too expensive, then don't enter. Otherwise, like the rest of the teams get more people... having 13-14 riders keen is the starting point. Then you enter! The rest will happen as it should

Quite a few savage mix teams out there? Rode with Brendan and that team through the "purple flowers" till WP2 then out of WP2 with Renay and that team... Had some good fun on the sisters with the team, those ladies in the team are flippen strong... mind blown 🤯 🤯 🤯 Great time well done especially on only your 2nd one!

Yesterday as we were coming back from our ride, we got a cyclist who had been waiting at the astron garage waiting for people to pass, without even chatting to him I knew he was looking for company going over the bridge. He told me that on his way through they had tried to rob him, which he managed to get away unharmed. He carried on his ride to sea point, and now just needed company back home... So the situation hasn't changed, and the mind boggles how nothing is done... as simple as getting a vehicle or guard station their with a radio... maybe even just adding surveillance (reactionary rather than preventative).

let them leave 1st with the 10 minutes... the rest of us with more expensive bikes and slightly (only slightly) less ego's can continue... but even then there's no silver bullet really. its a start i guess, a slightly bigger gap and more marshals or commissionaires roaming the fast groups. as i'm typing this i realize that once the fast groups get into the WP's its also tricky then to "track" or "monitor" them as some teams may decide to just grab and go while others may want to sit out the full time given...
