  1. I did that, took off the 2 in front and the front derailure, put on a 32t and poof.
  2. Personally always do, not high exactly, but higher than I want, to leave room for negotiations, as quite literally that makes selling items easier as people feel better when they “saved”. Although funny enough, I have never negotiated on a price myself, I go with what’s listed.
  3. If you near Stellenbosch you can taste it at Hellsend Bike Compound at their coffee shop
  4. We have soo many options I pick random ones every time I need to top up, Merkarva always being a great option if I realize too late.
  5. Damn, 4 years, mine made it a week before it was cut and scratched and when i took it off it took my paint with it. There support was extremely helpful at saying “jammer om van jou *** the hoor”
  6. You mean other than the fact that he confirmed he wrote the letter and put it up there.
  7. Now would it not have been better had he used the same polite tone in the publicly posted letter as apposed to the entitled arrogance he opted for. Use the same polite and enquiring tone as in the response to you and this thread would not have existed. Being rude and demanding as someone decided they no longer wished stranger to access their private property to which said strangers have no expectation of access to, is the fastest way to get told to F off and simply ensures that they be all the more reluctant to open the land back up to us. The wannabes club in the area has lost farms for that exact reason, a rider ridding off the marked route past the owners house at 5am which is also outside access hours, without a permit and then swore at the owner when asked to use the correct route and buy a permit. So thanks to one entitled ass, that farm is gone, and what’s worse is it was one of the not flat ones. The club has near 2000 annual members and who knows how many day permit buyers and they all suffer because of 1 person who believed his **** didn’t stink. Not the exact same situation, but it took the actions of a single individual to damage a relationship that impacts an entire community. You treat the owners with respect and I am sure they will be happy to open a dialogue, you treat them like they are no better than the fly turd under your shoe and they will tell you and the rest of us to go shove it, then we all suffer thanks to one man.
  8. STF builds and maintains them, but a lot of the network is still on private land, some owned by the farms, some by the municipality and then others by the university and it sort of scattered between the uni and the muni, not like consistent blocks. A working farm being cultivated just runs a safety risk to “visitors” and creates a legal liability nobody wants to deal with. Quite frankly every directional marker as well as massive boards at the main entrance points and even donation request signs exist at many locations on the trail, the one and only way this chop does not know they are whom to contact, he quite literally needs to be blind and I am not sure a bike exists with some form of AI driven “guide dog” that would suffice for trail ridding.
  9. Honestly that’s how B should have started it, instead of a letter of demand, simply a nice short message asking to open a dialogue to get more info. What I find most amusing is they have apparently been ridding there for 20 years, are demanding alternative routes and yet somehow do not know that 400m to the right is an alternative technical route, 700m to the left is a less technical route and a further 500m is a gravel road, all 3 of which end up at the same spot as the closed route. So in 20 years they have somehow only ever managed to discover this 1 exact path, and are now demanding things that already exist. Like I’ve only been cycling there 5 years give or take and I know all about these routes, how boring and repetitive mush his rides be to only know that one. Lol
  10. Yeah, ridding past again and updated the post with a wider angle shot and it’s very clear and quite obvious that the land is being worked on. Looks like they going to cultivate it and it’s quite possible, if we don’t ask like aholes, that once the big work is done it gets opened again.
  11. Ridding this morning from GSpot on the way to Eden and it seems the owner of the land for one of the contour crossings decided they no longer wanted riders on their land, which perfectly acceptable, it’s is private land. Some lovely and apparently remarkably entitled person decided they wanted to write a very impolite and entitled letter to the owner and tape it to the fence, I am not sure how they expected that level of entitlement and arrogance to yield a positive result I have no idea. It’s not like it’s the only way across, there are at least 3 other ways to cross so it’s not like we are in any way cut off, maybe just an extra km or 2 to cross over. I have removed the damned thing as it’s definitely just going to make things worse, we want more trails not less.
  12. What you have described is what’s known as a cellphone. The only thing that does all of that is a cellphone, so I can get you not wanting to run with yours, but it’s very easy to find small, cheap ones. Back in the day I used a Vodacom Kicka as an “mp3” player for running. Now I just don’t give a **** and go out with my actual phone, but that could work for you, buying a cheap cellphone is the only way your going to be making and reviewing calls and being go’s tracked while out running.
  13. That’s the whole reason I don’t shop there, tried it twice and it was a las, waiting for a reply only to find out there is no stock on sale and being offered more expensive stuff, it felt a lot like a bait and switch scam. If I go only to buy something, it’s to buy it, not to hope to maybe find out in a few days if I can possibly, maybe get it. They would literally be my last stop, I would sooner drive to all my LBSs than deal with them as driving is less of a las, at least when I get to said shop I get a yes or no.
  14. I guess, but with stock being fluid and these days scares, “do” and “have” have become very different things in these strange times.
  15. I was there a week ago, they appear to have very minimal stock around, mostly accessories and clothing. Although the easiest thing would be to just call them and ask.
  16. Make sure you read the warranty info on that canyon, anything goes wrong that needs to be sorted under warranty, shipping both ways is your dime.
  17. I used to do that, not sure how I ever stopped but I literally went through 2 to 3 watches a year until back the I splurged and got a GShock and other than a few dings and a dead battery it’s all good, think it lasted almost 12 years. My fenix actually looks pretty good but it is the replacement unit so only a few months old.
  18. Friend and I had a good discussion as we both agree with the visual, however at the end of the day it’s first a smart watch and you negatively impact usability and user experience with making it round, it actually removes a massive amount of space for for information and related interactions. At the sun, I would rather have it more useful and more issuable than more round.
  19. I rose those as part of a race, load of fun, not easy especially in hot weather. Lots of loose narrow trails near cliff edges. I think in the context of getting mugged alone will be safe, in pretty much every other safety related aspect I would not. Your in the middle of nowhere with very limited, if any vehicle accessibility and besides that if you do fall odds of you going all the way down to the damn are probably better than not. Many of us at the end describes as one of the most beautiful races we never saw, as you can never take your eyes off the trail in front of you. You only checking the view when you standing still.
  20. Recent got a Fox DHX2 with a 550lb spring for my commie which has a 60mm stroke length and noticed that the current spring is a 67mm. Checking Fox’s site I would be better served with a 600lb spring, now I can very easily get my hands on a 47.5-55mm rockshox spring. Assuming it fits, I think fox springs are narrower, would a spring with a shorter stroke rating work, I suppose in turn is having one with a longer rating for any downsides to it. It was setup for my by The Hanger so I’m very confident in the initial setup, but I guess there is some personal tuning to be done. I did notice I can use like 95% of the travel simply seated pedaling with the shock in form mode. TIA.
  21. 0.5 seems a bit late, but my Lyne chain ring is on its 3rd bike already, about 2500 on the first, 1300 on the 2nd and a few hundred on the 3rd. Gave it to a friend, that first was 1 chain, 2nd bike was on its 2nd chain so that’s 1 ring through 4 chains. I think that’s more the new chain needing to settle in, slightly worn teeth with a new chain will have a break in time, although personally I found that with some slipping in the smaller rings at the back for a few rides.
  22. It gives VO2, not O2, very different functions. 02 came with the 6 series. That’s a hardware feature that cannot simply be patched into the 5 series. Personally if I did go Apple I would get an Edge, been waiting a larger display for the bike for some time, the watch is less convenient for seeing things on rides, but having a 5x makes justifying one tough. I have just had this replaced for a dead battery with an OOW cost of like 4K. So in like 18 months time or so when it dies again then I’ll get the like 8 Series Apple and a mid range Edge along with the Polar Oh1. For running and every day use the Apple, especially by then would be far more useful, and will be perfect for the daily gym session and once a week 5k run.
  23. They belong wherever you want them to go, but usually the best place would be on the sides of your headset where the cables make contact with the frame if you turn your bars.
