I enjoyed Attakwas. The toughest day ever was stage 4 in the first Epic, '04 to Swellendam. Mud all of 140 km. It all depends on conditions and the pace you want to ride at.

Last week I offered to help PPA at the Tour de Vino after the previous weeks fiasco. Karin asked me to help with the vets bunch. So I drove with the comm, loudhailer in hand, and in a civil way, helped to get them to finish , safe and no one disqualified. At some stage we passed a bunch where Mr Bellairs was riding the short route. I mailed him and want to share it. Dear David It disappoints me that you're of the opinion that I was aggressive helping out a commisaire at the Tour de Vino trying to keep the race safe. I woke up early, doesnt want to get paid, trying to do a good "polite" job with keeping the race safe and you say I screamed at your bunch as the vets passed you. Half the vets bunch thanked me after the race for the manner in which I acted. You're not only a politician that passes the buck, but also a lier. I'm also posting this on THE HUB as the cyclists need to know what happens to people that want help out. Maybe next time you can marshall instead of riding. Hendrik

I see the Burger Toer, 30 Nov Stellenbosch wants 8000 riders. Only problem is in that the last 15km the short and long route will be the same. Dont they ever learn?? White line, fast people and slow together. SAme problem with the old Burger/Sanlam.

takhaar joined me on Epic 2 and 4. I had fast (too fast) partners on Epic 1 and 3. Dick had a *** Karoo2 c, so Im in with a chance next year

So Austin, whats your views of our u23 team at worlds. Do we have a chance? Everyone riding for John Lee? Will Jacques go in the early break?

WE had Cape riders that went Jhb and started successful cycling careers, then we had some that came back after a year cause they werent good enough or they didnt like it. Then we have SA riders that tried overseas racing like Malcolm, either he didnt like it or he wasnt good enough. We have some riders in the Cape that never tried the Jhb scene. Not interested, maybe they were good enough, like Moolies or Lourens. THen we have SA riders thats not interested in Europe. So if Malcolm and his buddies realise they wont make it in the big pond then they can win 300 races here and make money. But if our youngsters like the Neotel boys dont even try a career in Europe I'll kick their butt.

We have our opinions about the well paid MTN boys, but the HUB rule esp to newcomers is that you first tell us what YOU think. THen you will get 20 pages.

PPA also refuse to give your ID numbers to CSA, so if you want to enter for a big race youre not recognised on the database. And then you must pay for another day licence.(or something like that) And mr Bellairs is on PPA and CSA board. So they part of CSA, but trying to undermine the system. I think there's also more members/missing money (like CGC), thats why they dont want to hand over all info...
