  1. Out of interest, what size is the rear shock on the AL series? 210x47.5 or 190x42 or ?
  2. Have you seen the Minion SS? Looks like a really good rear tire.
  3. Update: XD freehub works perfectly on the power tap disc hub. Next question, seeing as though the hub has the 15mm axle and allows you to remove the freehub easily, would it be possible to use updated axle endcaps to allow the same hub to be used on boost 148/12mm TA? Has anyone tried this? https://www.bicyclepower.co.za/products/powertap-g3-axle-end-caps-130-135-142-and-148mm
  4. Why the change from the DHR2? That's really interesting, the nippy or lack there of is probably the transition onto the side knobs, as the Assegai has the filler knobs. To be honest, I'm not seeing much difference between the Forekaster and the Ardent. Riding a hardtail, I want the grip in the front . Don't mind the rear sliding out, as long as the front stays planted. DHR2 up front, and ship the ardent to the rear?
  5. Yeah, have noticed the Marbles, almost lost the front today on some of this stuff. Why low tread height? Those are interesting choices, low rolling resistance though?
  6. Hi all, so maybe a question for the Western Cape guys. What tyres would be recommended for some light technical stuff? (Trails in mind: Majik, Bloemendal, Meerendaal, Hillcrest). Current tyres: Maxxis Ardent 2.4 120TPI, front Maxxis Ikon 2.35 120TPI, rear Finding the Ardent to be a bit loose as a front tire, especially on lean through loose corners . It is fine on hard pack though. The Ikon under heavy braking locks up and just "ski's" Rims: WTB KOM tough I29 on the front, with the WTB KOM tough I25 on the rear. Any recommendations? Fundamentally keen on an Assegai, but after reading some of this thread I have concerns..
  7. Just put a 6 pawl freehub body in the powertap hub, huge difference compared to a 3 pawl! Much louder, sounds much better out on the trails, also a subtle reminder that I'm not pedaling .
  8. Out of interest, what makes you say SRAM made a quick fix, is the XD driver not compatible with 11sp as well? If it is and a quick search does turn up quite a lot of SRAM 11sp XD cassettes, what's the quick fix in that, they saw a way to make a system compatible between 2 different "speeds" and implemented it like that. Am I missing something? EDIT: No sarcasm intended, genuine question. Where Shimano have something completely new for 12sp...
  9. Are you referring to jumps between the sprockets or the overall range? If it's the overall range the new SRAM cassette is 10-52t? Albeit the jump on the last one is 42-52t.
  10. If it's purely budget orientated then Shimano SLX, as it is cheaper than the new SRAM Eagle GX (10-52t) group set, which then means Micro spline hub. Sunrace does offer value, have heard and can testify (albeit on 2x10 XT) that the Shimano RD and shifters don't work as well on the Sunrace cassettes when compared to standard Shimano cassettes. Having said that, the Rapide hub is the most affordable option, but good luck on getting stock... If you are going micro spline, the standard Shimano hubs work well and are relatively easy to service at a later date. On a side note, just ensure that you select the correct hub width and axle standard when buying a new hub.
  11. Slight update, was able to get a sram XD freehub body for the powertap, so going down that road, will have that on Wednesday. Then a full GX groupset would be in order?
  12. Hi all, I am at a crossroads here. I broke my one Shimano XT 2x shifter, so the one thought train is to instead of replace with another 2x10 shifter set, to make the jump and upgrade to 12sp. The catch comes in that I have a power tap rear disc hub (G2), a non-boost (QR) frame and I am trying to find a way to minimize the changes required.. The current options are as follows: Sunrace 11-50T cassette (MZ90), which is suited specifically to SRAM drivetrains., and then go SRAM GX? Sunrace 11-51T cassette (MZ903), suited to Shimano drivetrains. I cannot find stock of this in SA. The thought would then be a Shimano SLX drivetrain? I believe the difference is in the spacing they implement on the two cassettes. The 11T at the bottom negates having to change the hub, and will fit a standard Shimano HG freehub or equivalent (Non micro spline hubs). Crank is not an issue, as that can be easily converted. Does anyone have any other suggestions that work or are known to work in this scenario? All suggestions are welcome. For those that have tested SLX and GX, what would be the verdict, considering pricing and spares? Regards.
  13. Falke still make good socks, decently priced, no quality issues. They aren't R200 for a pair of niche market socks.
  14. That should be costly, every rebuild for your account, also apparently they had some problems on their heating process on those rims. Will keep you all in the loop on these rims(WTB)
  15. This is just shocking on Stans part!
  16. Update: Ended up going with WTB kom tough i29 for the front and WTB kom tough i25 for the rear. CRC had good specials on these...
  17. Surprised he didn't run tubeless tyres on non-tubeless rims, or vice-versa... And what about running some 2.1" at lower than 16.4 psi?
  18. Is it the don't go around, rather go through the obstacles approach?
  19. That's really good, and it's not the tough!
  20. Agreed that Stans are good, current crests have done 6+ years and are okay. I just don't feel like having the rim crack and then having to rebuild and rebuild due to warranty replacements.
  21. Pressure on a 2.4" Maxxis Ardent ? Around 1.8 Bars? 6069 is supposedly stronger than 6061 and does yield up to a 40% increase in strength, but that change clearly didn't help stans in their pursuit of better rims, also their internal ribbing and a very flat rim clearly didn't help.
  22. Stans are long gone from the list! Lyne are heavier than WTB I29s, so surprised he dented them! What was he riding over? Probably going to go WTB, they seem to have a positive review from all that have ridden them.
  23. Awesome, thanks! I will definitely give them a look, weight isn't an issue (I am no Ninja )... 1.5 Bar on which tyres? You are brave riding at that pressure, I haven't ventured lower than 1.8 Bar and I am comfortable there. Any reason for such low pressures?
