  1. Just a surprising feature I have found to stop with delamination of prints. PETG at 245/250°C and heated bed at 95°C, 3+ walls and 85% infill, generally have had good success with stuff not delaminating under loads, prints generally snap before delaminating.
  2. If it's scraping already, I would be taking them back to LBS to have things looked at. @nick_the_wheelbuilder will have a more informative comment on the matter though.
  3. Had a new wheelset built recently and was told to bring them back after around 100km to make sure the tensions were correct and to retension anything that had worked it's way loose. After 10km it seems a bit excessive, would possibly suggest the tension was too loose to start with? Scraping noise may be tyre/rim contacting the frame under load, depending on your clearances...
  4. A suggestion, one that works well for me, given on WTB rims. Apply a wrap of insulation tape over the spoke holes first, this will prevent the sealant getting into the spoke holes should it get under the rim tape, then the correct size rim tape, minimum of 1 wrap, starting before the valve and ending after the valve again. Did the DT Swiss rim come with a rim strip?
  5. Not to cause a stir, just genuinely interested, but what is different/better between this and say the Garmin 530/540/830/840?
  6. I understand your frustration with the whole sanding/polishing etc piece, but you do find a certain sense of satisfaction that comes when you get better at it... There is also the option of using 2k automotive paint to finish everything (This assumes you have the whole workshop to go with things) Your vent sliders look great though! Kudos on those! 100% agreed on a 3D printer being a tool that should be in every home, just the minor issue of Eskom and long prints. Designing things becomes a hobby at a point, especially if you are designing 3D printers/CNC machines from scratch. The nice thing about learning tools such as Fusion360/SolidWorks/FreeCAD etc is that you are then able to design anything and everything under then sun.
  7. https://www.amtcomposites.co.za/product/xtc-3d/?gad=1 Have a look at this to smooth out the contour lines, just not sure about the weathering ability of said stuff... Otherwise your next option is to go from 400-800-1000-2000 grit sand papers and then spray with a clear lacquer such as a Rustoleum 2x cover, or similar. When printing this, I would suggest something like PETG/Nylon/ABS. PETG is fully chemical resistant and does well in the sun as well, have had some structural parts outside for around 2 years now and no issues with their integrity.
  8. Had a similar issue recently, where a set of bicycle rims were calculated as car rims, queried and provided correct amount for duties, to no avail whatsoever. Sent an email to the global helpline, no response either. Aramex SA has disappeared down the drain.
  9. +1 for a Karcher. K2.360 works well enough for most jobs, but would probably go one bigger. Spares are just a tad pricey.
  10. Not necessailry more skilled, maybe just some foolishness lol. I couldn't get over the 'death-gap' initially, bought some property on a good number of trails thanks to this, just a matter of learning the characteristics of the tyre and learning the skills for trail riding (continous learning here)... My preferred combo is DHF(F)/DHRII(R), super heavy set (120tpi), but works well for most things. Hopefully the DHF works well on the hardtail, how's the shoulder healing up?
  11. Wait wait, am I the only one who prefers the DHF over the Assegai? Personally I prefer that marginal slide before feeling the side knobs biting up properly, but you have to commit to the lean to get there, which on loose marbles over hard pack get's sketchy
  12. @nick_the_wheelbuilder would be the person to ask on this. For me, personally, that seems a bit off...
  13. That has been the same experience on this side, just strange how two companies are so different.
  14. Aramex SA is the enemy in this relationship Have been asking them for a week for a customs invoice to get an item cleared, they then maintain that it takes 72 hours to get a package between customs and the Sandton depo, then another 72 hours from there to Pretoria, thereafter 24 hours for delivery, so 7 days on top of the customs process... Best part is having to constantly contact them via a WhatsApp bot the whole time, as their phones go unanswered. Funny how UPS/Fedex can do all of the above in the space of 48 hours.
  15. Can attest to this, 2 new tubes that are around 2/3 weeks old and the one is slightly lower in terms of pressure than the other, not talking a lot, but enough to warrant double checking it.
  16. I have been happy with the Pirelli butyl sport tubes, but they only come in a 48/60mm valve (Non RVC), the RoadTube has the RVC capability. Next best I could find online is the below: https://evobikes.co.za/product/continenta-innertube-700c-80mm-valve/
  17. Nevermind that some shops seem to get this stuff on the brake rotors as well, then it's a pain... "Insert squealing shimano brake sound"
  18. Recently purchased a few Shimano things from Merlin in the UK, can try this route... Standard shipping with UPS for any orders under R6k is R654 though, so rather expensive when you add import duties (Vat and handling fees) into the equation. Edit: If you have broken the plastic cams in the levers, those you can 3D print, have had one on the older bike for months and no issue whatsoever. As for replacements with Shimano brakes, there's a reason I went to Cura brakes, topic for another time. Would look at Aramex Global shopper, or finding a supplier such as Merlin who are willing to go around the geolocking.
  19. Have found that the SA suppliers of certain items have lost touch with reality... (False shortages, or valid?) 11sp Shimano 105 groupset, landed in SA from the UK is around half the SA price (Looking at RRP), how is this justified? Think some companies need to have a look at their pricing models...
  20. Hi, any ideas on what the price to build the wheels was? Have spokes, hubs, nipples etc, so just need someone to put it together.
  21. I will look into this, may be worth it. Also looking at Hunt rims.
  22. Have been trying to stay away from these options, as SAPOS seems to be a bit dead. As far as I know, that list includes the likes of Starbike, Bike24.com, BikeComponents.de? Merlin, CRC use a courier...
  23. Hi, looking to purchase 700c Rim brake rims to build up a decent wheelset. 32h rear and 28h front, looking for a semi-aero rim (>30mm). Inner width needs to be greater than 16mm. Any suggestions as to where to purchase from would be great? Does anyone have experience purchasing from R2Bike? Thanks
  24. Haven't had many issues in the Northern suburbs? (I don't go looking at the stolen bikes section) Also the trail network(TBMTBC) is rather private so there is that... This thread is making me doubt ever going cycling in PTA
  25. Is there anywhere safe to cycle in Pretoria? Not planning on going out there alone, but just wondering which spots to avoid as of late.
