  1. True, just in general thought they would have changed it. Looks like it comes from Mangaung's side, not realy from themselves. Presume that using too much of the N1 is a problem for them. They not running the MTB event themselves, but they have basically outsourced it to another group who will be organising it. Hopefully that means the Road race gets full attention.
  2. I see they have changed the route again, sending us through the K@k part of town again. Wonder how the people who hit the car last year will feel about that. . . Full road closure may help, but who knows.
  3. September 20th
  4. Okay, so my attempt to calm people didn't work. Different approach needed. I agree, it costs a ton of money to go there, as it does for me as well, and for some it's worth the risk, and for others it's not. You are welcome to raise your concerns and air them, I'm concerned that the wind will play a role again, I just choose to keep it to myself. But, to each his own.
  5. True, whatever reason they decided to target it may still be there, but there is no direct reasoning to think that they will do it again. A protest like that is mainly to gather media coverage for the problem they have, hence, if all the people drawing light to the question surrounding the protests on Facebook, would just drop the issue and stop drawing attention to it, we might be better off come next year. It's clear that the organisers have no intention of acknowledging the protests or the role it played this year. I am sure that this was a decision not taken on a whim. So let's maybe support them and stop worrying about what might happen and just chill.
  6. In terms of underestimating, are you telling me that the organisers would not have some sort of contingency in place or a backup plan should this happen again? Considering the embarrassment that this year was for them I'm sure they have looked at this and determined how they would deal with it should it become a problem. . . As has been said before as well, since all the other hundreds of sporting events that take place in Cape Town throughout the year have gone off with out a hitch, why would they then specifically take aim at the Cycle Tour? Is the Two Oceans not also as big in terms of the running community? I know we have a narrow view when it comes to cycling, but other events have been fine, no indication as to why it should be different.
  7. Entered last night! Fiance going for her 10th, Skoonpa-to-be is going for his 11th and I'm going for my 2nd. . . Should be a good day out!
  8. That's a damn shame, 2016 was an amazing year for the race! Hopefully it follows the pattern and 2018 is even better!
  9. F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5
  10. Yip, not as rare as we sometimes seem haha
  11. Looks like SupaCaz?
  12. One should not underestimate the ability of people to complain. . .
  13. Which isn't that massive, I rate mine to be in the single digit range, but priorities are different for everyone. I'm trying to justify this while planning a wedding for the end of April. Will see how much touristy things and wine tasting will be done this year. I fear not much
  14. Would be too scared to do that Food, drinks, random touristy things, it all adds up to way too much. Do it, but when you have done shaking your head, set it alight and enter again for 2019!!
  15. 2016 was fine, I presume you referring to 2015. All things considered, having 1 complete stoppage and 1 shortened route in 40 years in a place that is notorious for weather issues is not bad. Although again, I think the problems is with the total cost of travel and accommodation rather than the single entry fee expense. It's just an easy target. The real barrier to entry for people outside of the WC is the travel and accommodation, not the entry fee
  16. Compared to what we pay for spares and parts for our bikes, the cost of an entry shouldn't be a problem really. Travel and accommodation is another thing entirely, but that doesn't matter to the organisers, they just looking to cover costs and presumably make a bit of profit. An interesting calculation would be the cost of the entry as a percentage of the total expenditure of the week that you are there. . .
  17. Is the 94.7 not R 475 this year? And the Amashova is R 460. . . Pricing seems inline, slightly above as presumably they can cause it's the Cape Town Cycle Tour. At least they didn't increase the entry price from last year.
  18. I think the castle will be an awesome backdrop to the start!
  19. That was the big announcement wasn't it? When he stopped talking he said that's all they had to announce
  20. Guaranteed someone will post quickly, especially if it is bad
  21. And start them at the back so we don't have to hear the irritating sound of their tires going downhill. . .
  22. Hopefully start venue only! Which would obviously entail a route change technically
  23. All who entered and collected get a guaranteed early entry, so no stress about renewing
  24. Hell, even if it is just after that hole in building that created the majority of the issues at the start(refer any video posted that day), I think it may be a good idea. . .
  25. Moved the start?
