  1. For years we drove in from Tokai, parked at the parking lot next to 3 anchor bay. But since Covid we have stayed in and around green point/Mouille point. Nothing beats being in bed at the time when we would have had to leave to Tokai to make it to the parking lot on time to get a space. Logistics are much easier. We also walked to the expo this year, as parking is ALWAYS a nightmare, made worse by the open field next to the stadium becoming a hotel now.
  2. Agreed, and the further back you start the worse it is
  3. If you are comfortable with it, travelling in the wee hours is much more survivable with little kids. When they sleep the wheels roll much easier.
  4. So, is the race date for next year the 14th? Following the second Sunday in March rule?
  5. Can confirm, happens every year
  6. I also think we lose sight of the population on Bikehub vs the general cycling population. I hazard to guess that the community on here is a tiny percentage of the actual cycling community. While that doesn't make it less important, it does mean that we can't take the lack of chatter on here as an indication of the health of anything. But, the point is fair, the chatter on here is much less than with my first one 10 years ago
  7. Very important to not get the bigger size, even if your wallet would prefer it, I had the horror of seeing first-hand what putting my nephew on a 24" too early did to his confidence and riding ability. He went from being toe to toe with my son to being almost a full lap behind. No difference from one week to the next otherwise, just my in-laws deciding to put him on his brother's bike. If he can handle the bigger size, that's perfect, but if you doubt for a second, go for the smaller one. There is usually a good resale market for kids bikes, including myself soon haha.
  8. Agreed, the Titans 20" are fantastic, just assist my in laws with buying a 24" for the nephew, proper bikes for a great price!
  9. and if you have a family membership the total membership is R400, so if split between 2 people it works out at R900 per person for the entries plus PPA membership
  10. Time for a new thread! Entries open today!
  11. The deadest I have ever seen this thread! It's less than a month to go and the seedings come out Thursday, looking forward to my yearly trip around the peninsula!
  12. So it looks like my 950 and then 995 prediction may hold true looking at this.
  13. are you saying it's too expensive?
  14. I didn't think about it at the time of this being posted, but my wife is actually going to do the prelude tour as she will be 7 months pregnant come the cycle tour weekend. While she would probably be able to cruise around, the risk of her falling is too much for our risk appetite. This gives a nice alternative to her. Unfortunately that means I won't gain a year on her as I had planned, number 16 it will be for her.
  15. I wish they would bring back the Kiddies tour on the Saturday I think it was? for those bringing young ones with for the week it gave them something to look forward to as well. I think that died with Covid along with the MTB race, which I am sure would be a cool reinclusion.
  16. I can confirm that the entrance fee is a marginal portion of the costs of traveling down and having a great week in Cape Town. It is starting to creep up on the R1k mark though, will be a rough year on this thread when it breaks that mark. I am predicting a R949 and a R999 first, so a number of years before that happens. Maybe for the 50th celebration they can take it back to the an entry fee from years gone by. . . . wishful thinking I know.
  17. Okay, will have to go and find those boards haha Are the CTCT boards only for CTCT or is it now for other old Racetec timed races as well?
  18. So, quick question on timing boards, is the one from Cape Town Cycle Tour usable for this race or?
  19. Eh, if you are gonna ride it in person why worry about the prelude ride. One would think it is a way of including the people that have been excluded next year for religious purposes. I highly doubt they are going to allocate you a sub 3 finish or something like that, often organisations are not as dumb as we think. Don't think it is hunting for more entries either. I think it is the best compromise to include those that have no choice. I thought people would be losing their minds about the entry fee like every year
  20. The wife and myself both have Garmin FR245s, and we have occasionally gone out of our way when we run together to ensure that everything is the same, start time, when we set the watches to start acquiring GPS, and we have never had it line up, hers is always slightly behind mine. Which I am okay with haha, but gives her lots of anger issues.
  21. September has almost come to pass and no entries yet, I see the website still states entries will open in September, I wonder what's the hold up.
  22. In this context, I wonder if "Dusi Guts" has a lot to do with the decline in numbers, presuming not a lot of people are willing to do it just to have explosive diarrhoea right after.
  23. Haha, or recently expired
  24. Question answered by watching the rider brief, completely different to the one I have. So never mind
  25. To Those who may know the answer, if we already have one of these new fangled boards that look super-pro, from say Ride Joburg or similar, do we still use those or are we getting new boards again for life/race/next buy-out?
