  1. Kind of like asking is it gonna rain? or will the wind blow?
  2. See in a reply on FB that the message was just an FYI, and that emails will only be sent out in September. Presume they got tired of everyone attacking them about the preferential entries. . .
  3. Same, checked it the moment I saw this last night!!
  4. The stench of entitlement is strong around those Facebook comments. . .
  5. I hope the goodie bags are worth it this year
  6. Brace yourself, those suggestions will still pop up here, along with the "I won't enter again until they move it" people. Will be very surprised if this thread is still civil come Friday.
  7. Glad someone started the thread, have some unfinished business as does everyone else with this event haha!
  8. Now at least if you ever need to weld anything you can just use these. . .
  9. Best idea they have ever had, that part of the race had me pooing myself
  10. Hahahahahahahahahaha
  11. Science On a Friday related note, please can you provide me with at least 3 independently reviewed research papers proving that this is the case.
  12. This is what happens when your girlfriend understands you!!
  13. Same here! Hopefully be in good shape with Amashova the weekend before!!
  14. Well, they didn't, not a lot of people deal with the hub and other places where substitutions are readily available. True more entries are sold than turn up on the day, that is logical in a pool of 35 000 that a percentage would not make it due to unforeseen circumstances, all I was referring to was your statement about them selling more than the 35 000. I understand that this happens in the hotel and airline industry, just wasn't aware it happened regularly in the sport event environment. Glad you are so secure in this knowledge, and don't stress about my standards, they are part of the reason I called you out, my tone, admittedly, could have been better.
  15. Facts need proof. . . or are you going to tell me go and find it myself? You say it's a known fact that no one struggles to get in if they want to, how do you know this? My other half and her father attempted to get in 3 years ago, and it sold out before they could. You say it's a known fact that they sell more entries then they should, do you have proof of this? Or is this wild speculation that's now being construed as fact?
  16. Some of the more narrow-minded of us would say it's 1 to 2 against , but those people are just forgetful obviously. . . or bitter. . .
  17. Me definitely, did it last year for the 1st time. An amazing event, also going to do Tour Durban next month so all the training didn't happen for nothing. As far as I know generally you park your car in Durban, catch a bus with bike to the start? Not sure if there is a reverse trip for after, and don't remember there being secure parking near start either. . .
  18. True, but the point of a protest is to draw attention to something, so by targeting the race they were looking for media coverage and drawing attention to their plight. By not giving them the publicity they were seeking, they attempted to deter them from doing it in future(wild guess here) by not giving them what they were actually looking for. The disruption was not the goal, but the means to achieve their goal of media coverage and attention to their cause.
  19. What do we refer to this edition as? The 39.5th? The almost 40th? The 40th version 1.0? The cancelled one?
  20. Have to agree with you about the Amashova, such a great event and such great weather and beautiful scenery. The valley of 1000 hills is very aptly named haha. See it's a week before the Mangaung Cycle Tour this year, so should be interesting
  21. True, and you can tell your kids and grand-kids one day that you started the 40th edition twice haha. I think we were all over-emotional on Sunday, even the apology from the captain of the flight I took back to Joburg was met with mumbles from the passengers, including myself.
  22. Just nit-picking here, but 2 misses in 40 editions is the correct figure to use here, narrow-mindedness isn't really helpful to looking at the context of the situation. You could also say that they have missed 1 of 1, or 1 of 2, which would give different impacts on the perceived success/failure of the event to occur. We all lost time and money, life goes on and most of us will be back next year to ride, it's a beautiful race with an amazing setting and riding with so many other cyclists is definitely an experience. Some people like to gamble on horses or at the casino, where the chance of winning is very slim compared to the 95% success rate the CTCT has had. I would rather bet my money on this where the outcome is an amazing experience.
  23. Not a wealthy one though, 4 100k+ bikes doesn't equal wealth apparently.
  24. Makes sense, I only have a carry on, so might just do that as well.
