  1. Perhaps, if Sanparks posted rangers at mugging hotspots instead of at the singletrack to specifically fine MTBers riding 'illegally', they could prevent some of these muggings. Just saying.
  2. From what I've heard, the taxi was turning right accross Burry's path
  3. I don't quite agree with you. A car turned accross my path once. Was in the drops, saw him go, I braked hard and tried to swerve but clipped him with a pedal and went down. I don't care who you put in that position, under the circumstances I found myself in, there is no person on this planet that could have avoided hitting that car. I was barely doing 30kph. I was just lucky there was SOME space to manuever and the driver saw me and braked. Plus, even if I hit him full-on I would have gone over the bonnet. With a big taxi, it's like hitting a wall. But to repeat what's been said, we'll never know.
  4. Was standing at a red this morning when a paraplegic in his recumbent casually arrived, cycled around the cars and went straight through. When we caught him I asked him if he should be doing that seeing as he was already in a wheelchair. He took it pretty well. Even apologised, although i'm not sure if he was being genuine or sarcastic. I've always kept my mouth shut and just shaken my head, but those days are over. If you do that in front of me, you're going to get a friendly interrogation. This reminds me of the guy who did the same thing a while ago in main road in Rondebosch. He disappeared around a slight curve. We waited for green, set off and as we rounded the curve found him sprawled on the tar, bleeding. Sweet justice.
  5. Did it a while ago for the African Continental SS champs in Jonkershoek. I don't think I actually used a tensioner. I think, if I remember correctly, I was going to use one of those with the coil spring but it was broken or something and with a half-link added we got what seemed like the correct length. Anyway, I did it on a 5 inch trail bike, set down to the 4inch setting. Worked fine but probably cos the frame I used doesn't have much chain growth. It'll work fine with a tensioner but on longer travel bikes it won't be much fun as the suspension will just compress too much as you're heaving out the saddle and stomping on the pedals half the time
  6. She's currently training in Cape Town I believe
  7. The Le Jeunes sold in SA were by no means 'French classics'
  8. Hey guys, Thought I'd post a short wishlist of items I'm in need of: Firstly, I'm looking for a set of 8-speed C-Record downtube shifters. There were a few versions of C-Record shifters, but they look mostly similar to the ones in the pic. Preferably index shifters although I might be prepared to settle for friction. The other items are for a Nuovo Record group I'm putting together. Not too rushed on these as it depends on cashflow: Crankset BB Headset Front derailleur Thanks!
  9. Please confirm the date. Last week you tweeted that it was tonight. Has the date changed?
  10. So I finally managed to find me some Delta brakes. The bike was kept in a shed close to the sea, so I'll have to see if the corrosion in the pic will polish out. It looks like the engraved logo might get damaged if I try and polish out all the corrossion markings. I'm still in need of a C-Record crank and shifters, if anyone knows of any.
  11. My GF's is the exact same colour, built with 600.
  12. Beautiful Colnagos MacDaddy. I'm currently contemplating repainting my Master Olympic. It's been repainted already, so it's too late to keep it original. One of the previous owners had it done, but the painter did a **** job. Also, chrome on the chainstays is finished, so after every wet ride it shows rust within a day or two. Have been advised not to rechrome anything locally so might just have the whole frame painted. Kinda sad. I love the chrome. Also, wanting to get some new wheels for it. Anyone know of some Atlantas or similar deepsections that are for sale?
  13. I know of one of these in the Cape. Interesting bike.
  14. Sorry for the slow reply. Don't get onto the hub much these days.
  15. Thanks HC. Haven't been on that page in quit a while. Lots more bikes on there now. Was discussing what to do with mine again this weekend....still can't decide whether to paint or leave it as is
  16. If you really have the money for these big SUV's, then go for it. I just don't see the pint. For the same money you can get a 5-10yr old Hilux/Land cruiser/Defender/Cherokee for next to nothing and a seriously nice, more powerful, more comfortable, more economical, better quality, better resale value car to use the 99% of the time you don't go offroad. But maybe that's just me. If you're looking at something in the Compass's class, I'd rather keep my eyes open for a 1-2yr old Hyundai iX35. Should be some good value there and likely a diesel.
  17. ^^^ What they said. If you want more travel, rather get the right tool for the job.
  18. Awesome event and we will definitely be back. Had an absolute blast. Amazing trails. Amazing people. Cannot fault a single thing! My only disappointment involved ******** responses from two riders when I POLITELY asked for track on singletrack descents. No buddy, actually I'm not trying to beat Kevin Evans. I am in fact here for fun and for me fun involves blasting down singletrack at speed. Funny that he figures I'm trying to win when he is the one that won't give up 5 seconds to move over so I can enjoy the trail. Finally, anyone interested in swapping their medium Salomen and Aca Joe kit for my large...?
  19. With the bleedkit it's actually very easy and simple. If you intend keeping the brakes for a while, it might be worth it getting it. My original Juicy 7s were very reliable. Bought in 2005 and serviced once after about 2yrs until they were retired end 2010. One of them is currently being used by a friend while he waits for a new brake from the UK. Lots of play on the lever but still quite powerful.
  20. Doing the race. 10 days to go. Cannot wait. Still hurting after the last big training rides this weekend but getting SO excited
  21. covie, do yourself and us a favour and go have a look in the dictionary for the meaning of the word 'context' Then, read the sentence you highlighted IN CONTEXT. In other words, see how it relates to the other sentences in TZmtb's post. Here, let me help: "Gave up on silverback when they gave up on the whole South African brand image. Momsen uses SA as a selling point even if their bikes come from the east. Instead Silverback have a collection of meaningless sound bites." What he means, is that Momsen stands by it's SA roots as opposed to Silverback who doesn't. That is all. Nothing negative about eastern manufacturing in there. Are you afrikaans, because you certainly don't have a very firm grasp of the english language? See that little red word...."Instead"....that's your key as that connects the two sentences to form a single statement. Please, learn to play nice
  22. 1yr on my BB - no issues 7yrs on my hubs - original bearings, serviced 5 times 10yrs on my headset - original bearings, never serviced Worth every penny
  23. If he says that, I'll just accept whatever he is offering. It's still better than nothing at all. People often try that to be spiteful. They forget that in such an instance they will pay interest plus collection commission to a lawyer for evey payment. Cutting off your nose to spite your face.
  24. Cool. I'm going to try speak to him again, but if I have no luck within the next few days I will definitely take him to SCC. Again, thanks for the information!
  25. Thanks everyone for the replies. I did not report the collision seeing as he assured me when we spoke the next morning he was on his way to the police station to do it. As far as I'm aware we don't both have to report it. I need to check with him, when I get hold of him again, whether he actually did. To Skidd, if he decides to counterclaim, would that be a seperate case? Would he have to make that case in Cape Town seeing as that is where the incident occured? Can he do it in JHB? Also, I know SCC does not allow witnesses. Would an affidavit from a witness be considered by the SCC? I'm wondering if a witness placing his car in my direct right of way would help to swing things in my favour? Thanks again for the constructive replies.
