  1. Hey Chaps, C-Record 8-spd wheelset for sale if anyone is interested: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/92966-vintage-campagnolo-c-record-8-spd-wheelset/
  2. Any thoughts on the braking perfomance of these wheels vs more expensive carbon wheels? Dry and wet weather? Keen to order a set of rims and build them up, but as a friend said, all carbon braking surfaces are not equal. Thanks
  3. Agreed. Dan is your man. www.irideafrica.com
  4. For now, I will stick to my decision to boycott Tokai. Firstly, it's more expensive than anywhere else but the riding is sub-standard(last time I checked). Secondly, not a single penny of the money SANParks charges is put to trail maintenance or expansion. It all comes from donations and volunteer work.(also, last time I checked) They won't be taking the piss out of mountain bikers when(not if) they eventually charge a grand, they already are.
  5. +1 for www.irideafrica.com They always have the latest bikes available and you'll hardly ever ride a bike that's more than 6 months old. I think they just got a bunch of 2014 Giant models in. Yes, it will be a lot more expensive than a 2nd hand, low spec cheapie, but if you can't ride the trails on a decent bike then what's the point really?
  6. As I stated, mine have been abused and after 8 years are still on the original bearings. 4 or 5 services on the front wheel, 6 on the back. As a matter of interest, my CK headset is now 11 years old. It's never been serviced.
  7. Agreed. You can get to most of the bearings without the full service tools. The side of the bearings that open up face outwards. The only really essential item is the locking tool, which is small and fairly cheap. I did my own servicing with that 2 or 3 times before sending it for a complete strip and overhaul in order for the internal parts to be cleaned and lubed.
  8. If you're in any way mechanically minded, get the tools to service them yourself. The cost of 3 services will pay for the tool. Considering how long the hubs will last, it's well worth it. Also, don't over-service, if that's considered a word. Mine have been infrequently serviced, several times ridden while not properly adjusted resulting in play on the bearings/axle (once for 6 weeks when I completely forgot about it), about to get their 3rd set of rims and just generally abused and as I've bragged on the forums before, are still on the original bearings after what is now 8 years I think.
  9. While I love Sidis, this is one area where I disagree. NOT a brilliant idea. In 20 years of riding I have yet to meet anyone who has warn out the treads off a shoe by walking. My 3yr old Specialised shoes show absoluetely NO WEAR whatsoever, and I walk a fair amount. That;s because they make them hard and durable an they offer more than enough grip. Sidi soles lasted me about 4-6 months. And the prices they charge are RIDICULOUS! It's purely a moneymaking idea disguised as a feature. I say all this as someone who loves their product.
  10. The fact is that the forces applied in an accident can be quite severe, even though you might not have been injured. That being said, I feel ASG could at least offer you a replacement pair at cost, similar to the deals offered my helmet suppliers, since both soles completely ripping off certainly raises suspicions. I do have to add though, I'm currently on Specialised shoes that are falling apart after 3 yrs. My two previous sets of Sidis lasted me 7 and 6 yrs respectively. I gave the first pair to a friend and the 2nd pair are in my cupboard as backup since they're still in perfectly usabel form, except for being as flexible as my slippers. My brother is on his 4th pair of Sidis. Same story, all replaced as upgrades rather than being broken in any way.

  13. FOR SALE: Campagnolo Record High Flange wheelset http://www.thehubsa...._id=66338&new=1 **SOLD**
  14. If anyone is interested, I'll be clearing out a few projects I just haven't the time to complete. I'll be sure to post any classifieds here. I'll be getting rid of a full C-Record group as well as some older Nuovo/Super Record bits. Will sort it out over the weekend and take pics and so on and get things rolling early next week.
  15. And lets not forget that Nino rode a 26er while Scott had a 29er available. He refused to ride it because he didn't like it and stuck to the 26er while waiting for them to develop a 650b bike. What happened during that time? He STILL kicked arse on a 26er. To the OP....if you're winning why do you want to change anything?
  16. With that dark finish...THE sexiest wheels ever, and I'm not a Mavic fan. Wish I could justify a pair. DO IT!
  17. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/za/en/endura-stingray-glasses-4-lens-2013/rp-prod26716 I've had these for over 2 years. Great value and they've held up really well. It doesn't say so in the description, but the dark lenses on mine and my GF sets are polarized. Might have changed since. Unfortunately the exchange rate hasn't been kind. I paid less than R300 landed. Bargain!
  18. And to put in another recommendation for the Wolfberg Cracks, here's a pic I took of the missus
  19. Ah, what a video. I still remember flying down the hill behind you, sort of knowing what's coming and thinking to myself "Why the hell is he not slowing down...?!"
  20. Well worth it. Camped at Sanddrif in April with Dan from iRideAfrica. I hope you have a good sleeping bag though? It's freezing at night in winter. There aren't a huge amount of trails, but what they have is awesome. Don't expect perfectly groomed and manicured trails though. It's old school, rough and technical, not for gravel road riders(although there are lots of boring gravel roads if that's your thing) If you ride out of the campsite towards the start of the Wolfberg Cracks hike (I think it's well signposted, cannot remember, wasn't paying much attention as we were riding with knowledgeable folk) the second trail to your left, I would guess 20-30mins into the ride, is without question one of the best descents anywhere. Steep, rocky and VERY technical. Very, very few riders will manage the whole descent without putting a foot down. Honestly, it's so challenging and hence rewarding, that I will go back again and happily ride that single stretch 2 or 3 times a day every day and not want for anything else. Dan shot a bunch of GoPro footage but I don't think it's been uploaded. Pity. PS. Don't skip the Wolfberg Cracks hike, that alone is also worth the trip there.
  21. I bought a RS Sektor off a mate recently that was too short. Had it lengthened by Link Engineering in Woodstock. Think they charged about R320. They turned a solid piece of ali down to the same OD as the steerer, turned a step/shoulder into the bottom that slid into the steerer and then welded the joint and ground it down after. They drilled a smallish hole down the middle for the stemcap bolt. Only trick is to make sure you leave the starnut in as you can't fit it after the job's been done. As is, the steerer is probably stronger than a standard one.
  22. A friend found a pair of sunglasses on Suikerbossie yesterday. If you think they're yours, send me a message describing what you lost and we'll make a plan to get them to you. Thanks
  23. Pity the fokkers who fall for this
  24. Well, it just so happens Nils JUST tweeted a pic of a saddle they've done. See what I mean? http://instagram.com/p/Z7O_esKey_/#
  25. Cannot tell you directly who to go to, but Nils at Woodstock Cycleworks has a guy who does it. I've seen some seriously impressive work, with highly detailed patterns and embossing. Not sure of the cost. www.woodstockcycleworks.com. 021 461 5634
