  1. I was about 115 when I started riding my carbon MTB. So from my experiance you can. A mtb takes a lot more stress than a road bike. But honestly if you choose the correct Alu frame you will maybe add .5 of a kilo of weight on your bike. Take a bigger DUMP! in the morning and you will even it out.
  2. Selle Italia are lighter rand for rand. I rode the xc for a year and it was gr8t.Also is less than 1k at crc. The FIZZ and Spez sadles are also nice but tend to be heavier if you racing an aggresive H/T and wanting to save grams then SELLE is the ONE.
  3. whats UP!!!!!!!! cannot see any pictures. Are the HUB guys working on it?
  4. Always used SQuirt then LBS ran out and tried the other. Both work well but I find my chain and cassette stay looking clean for much longer with SQUIRT especially in dusty dirt road conditions here in KZN.
  5. pLEASE EXPLAIN HOW TO DOWNLOAD PICS FROM MY FOLDER FOR MY BIKE TO SELL. iM NO TECHY SO THE OLD WAY WAS SO EASY. pLEASE HELP
  6. Hi Guys I'm considering selling my SCOTT RC LARGE 2009. I built it up with my own parts which are following. The bike is in good nik as I only ride weekends and i had the clear film that you get on cars put on whole bike. Only the seat which a selle italia is pealing due to rubbing. Description as follows. Dt SWISS carbon shock and scott rear.XTR shifters, crank set, rear cassete, front and rear deraileur, easton ea70 carbon handlebar, new easton ea90 carbon bar ends, elixer cr brakes with carbon lever.Ritchey carbon blend stem,DT SWISS XR 425 rims with race spokes and red nipples,Dt 240 front and rear hubs,Specialized fast track 2bliss front tyre and brand new tubeless crossmark on back.Obviously tubeless conversion done.Xtr chain and EXTRAs are YUMEYA titanium cogs 2 added to rear xtr casstee so i think 6 of 9 are titanium.Yumeya barrel adjuster, shifter clamps and crank bolt.Xtr pedals.Bontrager grips and bottle cage with a specialized one on seatpost.Hope I did not forget anything. What is a fair asking price. Weight is about 10.6. Thanks guys
  7. Hi guys I've gone and bought the heart rate strap and reciever with W.I.N.D. I have the Polar Cs 200 CAD and I see that the 2 do not match. Has anybody tried to use the 2 as mine is still in the sealed package and I dont want to take it apart if it does not work. I'd rather sell it still sealed in the package unused. Any Polar gurus. Please help.
  8. I would say look at a s/hand one as you might get an older R15000 bike for that and you will already be at an ok level of bike. If you like the competitive side of road you will definately want a more competative bike.A new R5000 bike is ok but it is more like buying a Citi golf as apposed to a used polo. Then you can gradualy upgrade your parts as you get more hooked. In my eyes a quality FRAME is the most impotant thing then comes the components. GOOD LUCK. OH YES! there is also a very competative side to MTB also.JUst ask the MTBikers at the GIRO.
  9. Hi yes the SCOTT RC is a bullet.SO quick to get going and if you read up on their carbon set up, it is awesome. I went for this because I could not take the rip off of the Spez price anymore. Also the 2010 RC has a PATENTED lock out wich locks out the front and rear shock simultaneously. Also better is you have three levels of suspension 110mm for trail riding 80 mm for Xc racing and full lock out. I know the full Sram XX RC is R60 000 and the frame is R39 999. If you do go SCOTT you will save BIGGG and get a top notch machine. Good luck.
  10. As far as I know MARATHON is just the name.I had an Epic expert comp with XO and the frames are the same (aluminium) just different spec. Carbon frames have also pretty much same geometery just diff types of joining(welding) I am your weight and ride a Scott Spark Rc (carbon) It is up to what you want. ALU OR CARB. Have decent insurance with carbon.
  11. Strange hey.We live in the same country but have completely different climates. This summer was very soggy here in KZN and in the Karkloof trails things were very scary at times with all the mud.Winter here is mostly dry and dusty except for the odd cold front from the cape that brings the snow to our mountains. So with us here we are hoping for drier weather as the regular thunder storms keep the trails pretty much muddy throughout summer.so more servicing and brake pads.
  12. Hi due to a race injury to the hand and wrist I have been doing gym cycling which mimicks a bit of road cycling.riding about 10 min at a decent speed and cadence at 80rpm(similar to time trialing),then 100 revs at 4 times the difficulty, then back to 80rpm.I found it really helped to reduce my resting heart rate and improve my cardio.Yesterday did first race in 4 weeks and this type of training really helped as I could go into my red zone and then recover much quicker.BUT be warned ONLY doing road training has its draw backs as my body is aching today due to lack of time on MTb.(back and shoulders)Listening to Burry on TV it seems he does a lot of road work for fitness and as he sais you cant go out everyday on a mtb and ride hard trails as it will destroy your body.So try mix it up and do road as base training and once or twice a week do hard trail riding to improve your technical ability and to strengthen your upper body.P.S as the other guy said work on your weaknesses.I made a point of doing hills and although I'm no Contador I now do not fear tackling climbs and can stay on far longer than 6 months ago.
  13. Oldschool,If george taught him everything then why is he not giving him carrots in the mtb events. The Epic would be ideal in a way for a pro roadie as his legs are totally tuned into multi day stages so no surprise there. I do agree with the COLONEL that as long as it is SA it is great.RH,KE,BS,DG,DI whoever it may be. A birdie whispered in my ear that (wait for it)CHUCK NORRIS is coming next year!!!. CHuck Norris does not believe in the PERIODIC table.HE only believes in the ELEMENT of SURPRISE!!
  14. The roadies trying to claim MR GEORGE is like someone from BMX claiming BURRY.HE moved on a long time ago now and MTB is where his form comes from. So FIRST KEVIN now David. BROWN and LANGE are very good local roadies with the other 3 internationals. Though it shows us how good our local MRTbikers are to stay with the roadies and even beat them at their own game now and then. I always rated Burry and he has proven it but I think KEVIN must really start to also get the admiration. As a Marathon rider he is soooo good and he has shown he can t/t better than all of them.If he keeps his form He just might surprise a few this year at the worlds/marathon. OH yes and well done to RH for winning multiple stages last week.GO SA.
  15. C bros always look the part and have the lightest on the market,BUT!!!!! they constantly are breaking or in need of a service replacement kit. I have spent the last three months at my LBS and so many have needed rebuilds.SHIMANO XTR will fit your budget and are their lightest varient.YOU just dont get shimano rebuild kits. So if you got lots of money for regular rebuilds use C BROS as theirs will be lighter.XTR if you want reasonable weight and bomb proof pedals.
  16. At the end of the day and after all is said and done and it takes two to tango and what you sew you shall reap and so on and so forth.(MEN JUST CANT GET ENOUGH OF SQUISHY THINGEYS)
  17. Hi nice wheels.Ya my bike came in the same weight.Built Spark Rc about 3 months ago.Full xtr with some yumeya parts and Elixer cr brakes. Dt swiss carbon fork. I'm saving up to buy those xx brakes which will shave about 170g and then run Schwalbe rocket rons Non tubeless but as tubeless which is 300g. So then it will be 10kg. If you bought the rocket rons you would drop to 10.2 straight away. Crc prices are good. They weigh about 420g each. Good luck. will be posting my baby up soon.CHEERS
  18. Eat more chicken those calves look like chicken wings.

    BIBS

Hi Assos is definately the market leader but there are other good bibs out there. I use The giordana body clone for training and they work very well. They are red under the straps. They are about a grand at crc so very good value. USe the SPECIALIZED R9 for racing on weekends. Their padding is more substantial for comfort also they are very lite so they feel the biz. Cost R 1700 at LBS. ALSO used to use the Cape Storm but they others are far better in my opinion. If you can afford it use the GIORDANA for training and then use the Assos or Specialized for your weekend events.
  20. Just an aside. High rise bars maybe not but watch carefully at the xc world cup races and you will see a good few now ride low riser bars with a slight backsweep. Also check out the under 23 world champ and 3 in the world and his KCNC bar ends. jayz2010-01-25 09:23:48
  21. Hi you go past the left turn to go to dam. in between there and Summerveld t/off you turn left into the cane and go down into the valley and cross the railway line at Delville Wood station. you follow the road through an old tunnel and end up at the waterfall. Ya lived on a small farm at top of Shongweni before you go into the valley. Riding alone is not advised especially in the valley. Up top on the right next to summerveld is not bad especially riding through summerveld is cool and ending up at Assgai. Hope you get well soon. (get the cut looked at)
  22. Rather than the Coco pops try a quality Muesli instead. Some like the ones I use from Woolies have honey coated grain which is far better than highly processed sugar. They also have different raw nuts which help with the protein intake. Also fat free youghurt works very well as a substitute for milk.
  23. The new ELIXER range is far better. The pads are easily fed from the top. The stopping power far exceeds all the Juicy range. Really try them out,They are top class and also are different from all the others as the disc brake housing is cylidrical and not square or rectangular like the others.
  24. The juicys are getting a little long in the tooth now. The Ultimate is specificaly for top racers as they dont need as much brakes as the average rider. The ELIXER range has improved alot on the juicy range with its taper bore technology. Best stopping power vs value for money is the Elixer r. Crc is virtualy giving them away as you have the Cr,CR mag and now XX above it. I have the CR but really there is virtualy no difs and they are much cheaper.
