  1. Apologies dont get that paper in KZN. Still to be saved means the road races are becoming rather thin on the ground. Anyway heres hoping somehow there is a regeneration of road cycling by the average guy.

  3. BACK to the poll, I was at my local bike store the other day and a roadie came in to buy a mountain bike. Reason in kzn next year he said there were only 4 or 6 races. From all the events every week on ENTRYTIME and ROAG in KZn one can see now that mtbike events absolutely outnumber road events. Hence all the new stage races springing up such as jhb to c etc and no more GIRO. The event orginisers are here to make money hence they will put together more mtb events. Like my LBS is orginising 6 events next year and all are mtb events. Also I helped in the shop in December and about 100 types of mountain bikes were sold from silverback, scott, merida, trek and giant and 2 road bikes were sold a trek and a scott. such a pity as we will battle even harder to get our young guys into the pro ranks overseas. hopefully guys such as BUYS will make it on the world xc stage like Burry. Anyway got the horrible task now of taking my SCOTT SPARK rc for a ride in the KARKLOOF KNZ CHEERS
  4. I ride very dusty farm roads in winter and without a doubt the best has been squirt as your cassette and chain stay cleaner for longer. oil based lubes turn your cassette into black goo. So for most conditions use squirt and on wet days use oil based products. Plus squirt is local so you supporting local is lekkar and they also do a nifty small little bottle now for your saddle bag which is cool and costs R15. when its empty top up with your larger home bottle. Cheers.jayz2009-12-17 14:33:51
  5. Nothing beats the eggs for mud clearance but if you dont want to rebuild your pedals all the time use SHIMANO, THEY are bomb proof and give enough of a platform without standing on a pole. Look(pun) in any LBS. I dont see any rebuild kits for Shimano but CRANK's on the other HAND?
  6. Just dont damage the maguras. At LBS a customer broke the lever off one of those and the replacement lever took ages to get and cost a few bob short of a whole new disc brake kit. But now I see the Merida agents are taking over magura as they come on a lot of their new bikes, so hopefully spares etc will be more freely available. I am normaly a shimano guy running full XTR but AVID to me (brakes) are best especially the Elixer range. I had the elixer r's and now a dope pair of black cr' with the red adjusters. 375g and work da bomb, only problem i'm already looking at the XX which weigh in at 284g so 90g per brake is a nice weight saving exercise.
  7. Hi Owned a 2009 SPEZ EPIC expert with full xt up 2 two months ago and the bike really performs well in xc conditions. Then borrowed a freinds bike Merida 96 2009 with xtr and the bike was the shizzzzz nizz. A real rocket ship of an xc bike. And now three weeks ago I built up my own SCOTT SPARK rc with full xtr and YUMEYA shrown in with DT swiss carbon forks and the works and this baby Is the SHiZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ NIZZZZZZZZZ. The geometry is perfect. BUT I DIGRESS, the Merida by far represents the best value for money proposition. UNfotunately the Spez is overpriced and the Yeti OVER HYPED. MERIDA all the way like toyota.
  8. If you start worrying about 2 much blue. HERE IS a great set up. 1) DT SWISS xr 420d rims (white)OR new 400 even better. 2) DT swiss revalution spokes black.3) any DT nipples blue if you want. DT SWISS 240s hubs.(that pur of the ratchet is amazing and fellas tend to give way on single track with that purr behind them.4) your blue KCNC skewers. 5) your blue or Avid g3 rotors. This will not be the lightest but will come in around 1.5 to 1.6 kg and is best comprimise between xc light and durability. PLUS and this is BIGGEST plus you will still have some blue and as is almost always the case.(MOST components from same MANUFACTURER equal more reliable ride as they are designed to work together.)THIS will cost about 6 to 6500 at crc. LAST but not least if you want light value for money go DT SWISS XR 1450 rims silver blade spokes.and save up or put blue hope skewers on.R+- 7200

Gaurenteed to fall. possibly Outsurance expedition with all river crossings and definately this years ILLOVO. RIPPED MY R1700 SPEZ bibshorts wiping out. TOP SPEED TAR section downhill at HILTON 50 Miler. WOULD not do 50 miler again in that heat with no water at water point no 2. 37DEG celsius in summer in the valley with no wind or water. 10. Today i road the OUTSURANCE expedition from Inanda dam to Durbans Suncoast casino. Trues bob for a second race in two weeks the water point no 1 had no WATER. RIDICULOUS we are told there will be water and water points and in the middle of summer in KZN there is no water.Well done outsurance. Lastly this also happened at water point no 2 at the Hilton 50 miler. IT was 37 degrees and no water. IF a national event is held we expect quality rides with WATER. What is happening with these orginizers.MTN sponsor and OUTSURANCE SISSS
  11. unless you are in pain see if it subsides.DOnt do anything drastic regards ops etc.REST does help.If you are a mountain biker use quality bar endes and swop positions regularly. SPECIALIZED has a good range of gloves that help relieve the pressure on that nerve.the same with their saddles thats why they have the indentations and cut outs to help the pressure on the nerve and artery that runs near the groin.hope that helps.

  19. I have ordered about 6 times so far this year all using parcel force for free and evry parcel arrived within 8 to 10 days.+ they insure it.I have had one lost parcel through PRO bike kit but they use standard mail and not registered.ENJOY you order
  20. I honestly dont know who died and made you pesident.YOU are starting to behave as if you are the guru on bikes and which spezes are rubbish and which are not.any way carry on with your god complex and final judgement on bikes.EACH TO HIS OWN I guess. jayz2009-10-09 09:02:41
  21. YOu are correct.HERE in KZN the BLACK MAMBA is king.YOU want relief from constipation.(ride over one)2 or 3 weeks ago at one of the local races at LAKE ELAND game reserve two of the front runners both rode over one.both the DUSI and DUSI MTB race is synonamas with these black mambas. One of the fastest and deadliest in Africa.SOME 3m in lentgh
  22. LISTEN "CROW" dont you have any real constructive things to say.STOP acting like a childish boy.
  23. WELL DONE! NODDY BADGE in post.
  24. XT pedals and I think the standard cleat for it.I have done a fair few K's in them so maybe it is time to change.what do you think.
  25. What you say is valid.I have not got to the stage of the EPIC yet and really only do the weekend races so reliability should not be a factor.I suppose its ones opinion as a few here that are good riders really like the DT SWISS.Honestly I think the brand is very good.In the end i also think that if the reliability was suspect the top manufacterers would not use the fork on their best models.I think both SCOTT and MERIDA would have gone for Xx as they already use the rest of the groupset.1st and 3rd I think in worlds for the swiss. So they cant be that bad.I do know if you race a lot that the oil does need changing. In the end thank goodness we all have different tastes or all you would see is scalpels or morewoods with rock shox. THATS what makes it so interesting as people veiw things from different perpectives and what is the best will always draw debate.cheers
