  1. Hello guys I good friend of mine spends a lot of time time training/riding and after completing the Bridge Cape Pioneer Trek he noticed that he needed to replace a couple of parts on his bike. So I thought I would help him out with the following parts which I have lying around at home. What is a fair price for the items sold as a bundle?: Shimano XT triple crank including XT SLX BB. Shimano SLX 3x10 Shifters Shimano SLX 11-36 cassette Shimano SLX chain Shimnao SLX 3x10 front derailleur Shimano XT 10 speed rear derailleur Avid Elixr 5 brake set, new pads. DT Swiss 445d Wheelset 26" on Shimano Deore/Scott hubs. DT Swiss M210 rear shock. All the items are in good conditions and function perfectly.
  2. Hi Guys Need some inout on this bike. Not for me, for a buddy. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/78265-axis-dual-shock-made-by-scott-29er/
  3. I took my Scott Spark 940 headset apart for a clean for the first time this weekend and discovered the lower headset bearings are 'open' similar to these. Do you know if it's possible to replace them with the sealed cartridge type?? cartridge bearing.bmp
  4. Took my fiances Scott and my Diamondback to have a minor service on 18 Dec 2013 (Slip 107505). When I went to collect the bikes today 20 Dec 2013, the Scott was still dirty. Rahaan said "Come back in the new year and I will have the bike washed". I asked him why it hadn't been washed and obviously not serviced. To this he said "ag sorry man...so many bikes". It was evident that both bikes hadn't been serviced at all. How does one service and set up without first cleaning the parts? Also, the chain hadn't been replaced on my bike as requested on the job card. Cajees were quite willing to charge R300 per bike for this. When I complained further Rahaan got aggro. Serious change of attitude needed my friend. Your attitude towards customer service really sucks. People with this crap attitude shouldn't be in business.
  5. Can anyone tell me what type of bearings the Scott Comp Disc IT Hub has? Is it a cartridge or cup & cone? It's the front hub on a Spark 29er Elite.
  6. Hi. This is not as much of a rant - more just frustration. How can one go about suggesting to your LBS to clean-up and organise the shop? The LBS closest to me stock the newest Scott and Silverback bikes (among others), but the place is a mess. You constantly stumble over unpacked boxes of goods received. Very few items are priced. Spare parts are gathering dust behind the counter. The counter is disorganised with manuals/brochures/magazines/more smaller boxes lying all over. There is no clear signage up regarding shoes/clothing/socks/helmets/tyres.Old stock are not cleared for sale/special deals to make way for new stock. Its just damn frustrating that one know the place can do so much better (financially) if the place is organised and clean. It is difficult enough to do business in the current financial climate.
  7. Hi All, Looking for a new bike - and particularly keen on the Scott Scale 910 - Best price I have been offered is R33k - do you know anyone out there that could do better? If there are bike shops reading this, you can PM in case it causes a crisis with your suppliers Located in JHB area Thanks
  8. My Scott Scale 10 was stolen on 2 Feb 2014. It is one of the older ones - black with yellow decals. The front forks are dukes, and it has a very narrow handlebar. If you see it or are offered it for sale, please contact me on 082 850 9709 or gwfischer@hotmail.com. Thanks,
  9. Hi All Im currently in the market for a dual suspension 29er with a carbon frame. I currently own a 2012 Scott Spark Team dual susser. I find the Scott to be a good bike with no issues at all, untill I rode the 2014 Spez Camber Comp last year as a test bike. I had ten times more fun on the Spez and on the same trials I normally ride on with the Scott. I normally ride in the Ruimsig and Fourways areas with only a few races such as the Magalies monster and Silverstar MTB challenge, per year. Is the Camber the best bike for R 40 000.00 or can you guys suggest a different ride? I had the below bikes on my short list. 1. Giant Anthem X 29er 2. Own built. Niner RIP 9 aluminium frame with a lefty shock, Fox Float CTD shock and existing American Classic wheel set with a lefty conversion. R48 500....too expensive. 3. Santa Cruz tallboy. Very cool but not in by budget. 4. Scott Genius 910. More trail orientated but should a hell of allot of fun to tide. More so than the spark? Any suggestion or comment with reasons why, would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks
  10. So I just bought a new Scott Scale 910 recently, and I have not seen a thread like this (please correct me if i'm wrong). So far my first upgrade will be the grips to a pair of ESI extra chunkies, what has/would yours be?
  11. I have just upgraded to the above bike - I was riding the Volcan xc29er which is a hard tail and am now going the dual sus route - have I made the right decision in terms of bike and going dual sus? The volcan was definitely lighter and got me through epic last year....would be interested to ready the thoughts on this?
  12. Some advise from someone who has had the following similar problem would be much appreciated. Last weekend I manged to break the swing-arm on my Scott Spark 940 just behind the lower pivot on the drive side. I know the bike is still under warranty so I took it to the shop where I purchased it. The shop was very helpful and will manage the whole claims process. This involves submitting the claim to Scott international, following up with them in terms of approval, getting the approval, and then getting the replacement part to be shipped to them from oversees as apparently this sort of stock is not kept in SA. The catch is that this can take up to 8 weeks. I don't have a second bike and have a multi-stage race coming up in May. I was hoping to get decent base training in over this period and can't image not being able to get on my bike. Is there anything I can do to expedite the Scott process?
  13. Durbanville’s Mariske Strauss (Orange Monkey Pro Team) and Pretoria’s Philip Buys (Scott Sports) claimed African Continental Championship titles in the Elite women and men’s mountain bike cross-country categories in the Western Cape today. Click here to view the article
  14. I am going to do Oak Valley tomorrow, which bike would you recommend for a heavy, semi fit, low skilled cyclist? Hardtail 29' er Scott or Giant Anthem X2 26'er
  15. I have a SRAM X0 2x10 on my Scott Spark Pro. Is there any technical reason why I cant swap out the small blade for an even smaller one, and keep the big blade the same? Currently upfront I have :Sram Carbon S-2210 GXP PF, Carbon crankarm, 38Ax24A T The cassette is a Sram PG 1070, 11-36 T Just in case its relevant: Rear Derailleur Sram X.0 carbon long cage, 20 Speed Front Derailleur Sram X9, DM S3, dual pull
  16. Good day all, I am looking for some advice on what would be a good price on a second hand MTB. The bike is a Scott Scale Elite 2012 and have done plus minus 1000KM and well looked after. My dilemma is it is a friends bike and would really like to give him a good deal in order for him to buy his next bike. unfortunately the two of us are a bit clueless on how much these type of bikes should go for second hand? Basically if any one can give guidance on how the second hand market works and how do one evaluate a price on a bike. Like a rule of thumb.,..
  17. Anyone else broken .....as in clean off ...... the aluminium chain-stay behind the BB pivot?
  18. Got introduced to this company by a buddy I cycle with. I did a bit of research and have to say their prices are fantastic and customer service is very sharp. I sent a message on their Facebook page and had a reply within a few minutes. My Scott Scale Expert with a few tweaks valued at R24K was quoted by another company at R358.00 per month, these guys came in at R145.00 per month. This company is also run by cyclists which is pretty cool. Their Facebook page is: http://www.facebook.com/pages/I-Cycle-Insurance/347965448633128 Anybody else had any decent quotes on bike insurance lately?
  19. Hi there I'm looking at buying a first mountain bike. Mostly XC riding, perhaps a few 2-3 day events later on. Currently looking at hardtail for maximum R25k-ish budget. Not to fussed about alu vs carbon. I've spent some time looking at bikes at different LBS' around me...and lots of internet research...pretty much overwhelmed at this point. Couple of options at the moment, I really like the look of this bike - Momsen SL729 - http://www.momsenbikes.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&layout=item&id=178&Itemid=754 http://www.olympiccycles.co.za/uploads/8cf7b5d2f6e24846a35e5e0b99c8ecf1-08042013-11411.jpg ...but there does to be quite a few stories about broken frames so I'm unsure. Also looking at something like the Scott Scale 940. Any advice, specific model I should perhaps look at, issues to avoid etc? Thanks in advance!
  20. I think that the only thing that the Specialised Concept Store in Melrose Arch specialises in is bad service! I went in there last week with a colleague of mine looking for a soft tail bike. The sales guys there (Ricky) said that they didnt have stock of a particular bike and that he would check at other stores for us and call me to let me know. One week passes - no call. My colleague went and bought a Scott from one of the more competent LBS' out there. I went into the concept store today and the same sales guy was there'; 1. When I asked why he didnt call me about the bike, he said "I was supposed to call you?" Äbout what" - this after I took the time to fill out my name etc on a piece of paper for him to get back to me. 2. The guy was completely unapologetic 3. His breath smelt like something died in his mouth, seriously, move inside a 1m radius of this guy at your own perril. 4. The store is extremely poorl;y stocked. And this is not the first time I have been in there and they havent had some of the basics. Bottom line, I will not shop there again and if I were you, I wouldnt either. If I ever need anything with a specialised brand name again, it wont be from the Melrose Arch store.
  21. Greetings Both CWC & CRC are having pretty decent New Year Specials on the mentioned wheelsets respectively. The question really is,(1) which set to pull the trigger on ? ... I will therefore appreciate all meaningful input, advice and comment in this regard. I ride a 2013 Scott Scale 920. The main criteria is an upgrade on rims, therefore the standard weight advantage comes into play but above all else is the Quality Aspect followed shortly by the Bling requirement. Thanks and I look forward to the responses.
  22. I have a new Scott Spark 940 2013 want to know if the lock out is meant to 'lock' the fork when engaged? The rear shock locks completely but there seems like way too much give on the fork. Is it meant to lock to almost a rigid fork?????
  23. Help me choose please, I have 2 bikes on my shortlist, Merida Big 9 lite 1000 - R 13495 Scott Scale 960 - R 11699 Merida already has tubeless tyres on so add R 1000 to Scott price. Scott has remote shock lockout. Salesman reckons the Merida is better specced with much better wheels??? Merida has Manitou shock, till now all I have heard about is Suntour, Rockshox and Fox (never really in my proce range anyway.) Manitou is new to me and I heard that it must be serviced in CT even though another thread has a guy in JHB who does it??? I reallly like the look of the Merida personally. What do you think? Thanks
  24. Hi guys~~~ firstly my english can be bad so please understand me. Recently I saw fondriest!!! It has really nice design~ But not easy to gey some informations about that.. I have scott foil 20. If I buy fondriest ft2 (?). It that worth? And I saw a team and people ride ft2 not zero.
