  3. I had an awesome experience this past weekend. Broke my pedal while away on holiday in Marloth Park. Thought I would take a chance and commented on a local mountain biker's ride on Strava, asking if he perhaps had a spare set. He ended up driving 10km to meet me half way with a set of pedals and refused payment. Mountain bikers are awesome people Thanks Willie Horn from Komatipoort
  4. We are doing a group ride from PTA to Harties and back on Saturday. There is a link to download the route file at the end of the post. There is no charge for this ride - but bring some money or a card for coffee at Jasmyn We will be departing at 05:45am from the Parking lot of the Waverley Plaza Shopping Centre, from the area in front of th Postnet. If is safe to leave your car here for the day. The ride circular route is 113km, and we will head out through Pretoria west, on gravel most of the way, skirting the southern slope of the Magaliesberg. We will then go past the Harties Cableway, and ride on through town, towards Jasmyn, where we will stop for a coffee/snack (for your own account) We will then cross over the old train bridge into broederstoom, along some more farm tracks, and then make our way back towards Hartebeespoort, going back towards the cable car, and then returning along the same gravel road at the foot of the Magaliesberg. Pace will be between 20-22km/h. It is a relatively flat route most of the way. We will provide a backup vehicle, as well as water refills along the way. You are welcome to provide your own snacks etc that can be carried along in the backup car. the route is split about 50/50 between gravel and tar, and is suitable to MTBs and Gravel Bikes If you plan to join us on Saturday, please whatsapp me on 0632202895 or email taun@adventurelogistics.co.za, just so we have an idea of numbers for the day, and that we dont leave you behind at the start. 5. Our first event last month was a great success. We are hosting another Night Ride, from the same venue, but we have a new route this time. We will still pass the Union Buildings, but wont be going up to the telkom tower, opting for a more leuisurely route throough the suburbs, with a few more MTB specific sections this time. Afterwards there will be snacks and wine, and we can enjoy a bit of a chat, and there will be a few lucky draw prizes too. Space is limited, and as many found out last month, the event fills up pretty fast. Make sure you book your spot now, to avoid missing out. click here to book a spot
  6. edit: link to the event registration is open - click here. Some club mates have been talking about starting a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly Crit race on a short circuit course on a Friday night. The venue will be on a new section of tar SE of Rand Airport;1.72Km long and can be race both clockwise and counterclockwise;18m of elevation gain per lap - it's flat, but there will be "out the saddle" efforts twice per lap as you negotiate the two 180-degree turns (1 hair-pin and 1 mdeium sized traffic circle;Daurtion will be 30 mins + 1 lap - maximum of 4 groups per night;Estimated lap time of 2:00 - 2:30, depending on the group, giving 12-15 laps before the bell lap.Initial talks have been around a Friday evening as the full route is lit, but not sure what the interest will be vs a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. We'll start on a Friday evening, as planned, and then see how it gains traction. Seeding? What's that... if you get dropped, suck it up and try harder... or... drop a group the next time. Rules can be added as we go, eg. repeat winners can be pushed up a group, and vice versa for last few places. An entry fee may need to be charged to cover a medical team and toilet hire (the closest shops are about 2-3Km away, We'd prefer to award points for position and then perhaps have one end of season prize giving. As we grow, this can become more formal. No officials needed, and this won't be sanctioned. The costs to set this up is unnecessary, and is more about giving those interested in participating a chance to hone their bike handling skills, do some HIIT workouts under race conditions and FUN - the rules are simple: Safety first - it's the riders' responsibility to police the guys drifting/changing lanes;First one over the line wins - he/she gets to brag about it until the next race; The race starts on time, and only stopped if weather conditions make it unsafe - we'll use our experience from running our mass participation event. I'll post a link to the video soon - driving it by car doesn't do justice to the effort required to complete a lap or two or 12-15. What else? Let me know in the comments below
  7. Hi guys, I haven't been in centurion long. I come from Blormfontein where you could cycle +- 30km and end up at a nice view. I find that it's different in Centurion. I have to make an event of it and either go to Big Red Barn or Wolwespruit etc. It feels like I am confined to the city streets during the week. And as a mountain biker, that sucks. Are there any nice (and safe) mtb routes one can give a go before or after work without having to load my bike in my car? Thanks

  15. So, I like this cycling thing quite a bit. With the GP Road Race Champs just up the road from me yesterday I decided to make the effort to go attend. We pitched at 15h00, thinking we will see some serious excitement as this would be right towards the business end of the various races. Firstly, the attendance seemed very sad, just a couple of Gazebo's strewn along Soutpansbergweg for families supporting their husbands, fathers, mothers, sisters etc taking part. I have since just finally accepted that cycling is not a spectator sport, at least not for people physically attending events, even on a short course setup as we had yesterday. You see the cyclists for 10s every lap, with no idea what has transpired on the rest of the lap. I had no idea which riders were in the race and where they were placed. We left after standing around for about 30mins. Somebody needs to seriously consider something new to get non-cyclists excited about these events. Mount some Go-Pros on the Race Commissionaire cars and have someone narrating the action from the car as the race unfolds. Stream all of this to Youtube and people might actually know what is going on out there. This morning, I have not been able to find out what happened in terms of results. I found Reinardt JvR on Strava and see in his description that he finished 3rd. Other than that, nothing. And then on another tangent, can somebody please explain the whole structure of the Provincial champs and how they feed into nationals? Someone like Nicholas Dlamini and Darryl Impey who currently sits in Aus, do they get a free pass to nationals etc?
