I am still searching for an entry level mtb for a lady.

What is your feeling wrt the Schwinn Mesa range (Mesa or Mesa GS)? I can not find any reviews on the web. Its got better components than the Mongoose Tyax.

The cycle shop guy recons its got good geometry for a ladies bike??

Also, it comes with SRam X-4 or SRam X-5 components. Is this ok or should I rather go for Shimano?

Brace yourself for a big argument coming up . But before it gets in full swing I support Shimano because it works . Got SRAM equiped bikes in garage and when they work they work very well . The best way to test geometry is to get on bike and do a few loops .

MichH and I BOTH have entry level mesa's... they really are lekker little bikes. I have the SRam components and am more than happy with them and i'm not known to be gentle on "my boy" - he is there to go play in the mud and fall and go swimming in rivers and fall again (you get the picture) and he's happy enough and i've got no probs with him or his components smileys/smiley4.gif

I agree, very nice bike and she will be punished around Phambili on Sunday!

I find that she can be a bit heavy, but the geometry is really nice to ride (not too aggressive so easier to learn on in my opinion).

I might be moving to a more agressive frame soon, but Shwinn is a good choice. Mine has been beaten up; from an endo that tore my AC joint in my shoulder, to mud swims, stream crossings, jolting downhills, etc! And she's stood the test!!

Its a nice bike...but on the long run the SRAM X-4 and 5 wont last. FACT. Its not made for XC racing. Rather pay a few hundred rand more and get the SRAM X7, thats awesome!

I heard Schwinn and some other company formed one company and now all there"old" bikes are sold at "stupidly low" prices. ANy1 else heard this?
