There is only one SL2 in the country at the moment, definately way better than the Cervelo.Friend of mine is selling his Cervelo(changed to Specialized) and can't even get K14 for the frame.Cervelo has a crap resale value.

If  i was you i would phone Cycles direct(021-5542128) and ask to speak to Gary.He has both bikes in  his shop. When you see both in the flesh and look at the build quality i am sure you will choose Spez.

It's ok stringbean, I don't see a bicycle as an investment, so that won't bother me...

Where is Cyclesdirect? In Tableview (judging by the tel. no)?

Show me the bicycle with a good resale value.

I would seriously look at the backup service as both brands are great. Currently in a struggle with Specialized to replace a cracked frame - waiting period already over 9 weeks and they can't even tell me when they will be able to sort out the issue. On Cervelo I had a problem resolved within 2 days.

Aren't Cervelo better trained at frame replacement? That's something that also going round in my mind...

Admitted the Cervelo issue was a much smaller issue than a Frame replacement - still to wait 9+ weeks - Not so good

I would go for the Cervelo. I've got nothing against Specialized, but some plus points for the Cervelo:

1. The areo tubes looks cool! I dont know how much faster they make you, but will stand out for sure. If you believe Cervelos marketing, the reduced drag actually makes a difference...

2. Lifetime warranty

3. The bb on the Soloist is absolutely colossal  - it should be massively stiff.

On the down side:

1. I have not checked, but I would guess the Soloist is a the heavier of the two.

2. Problem if you dont like red bikes.

2. Lifetime warranty  Raleigh has also go it, big deal

3. The bb on the Soloist is absolutely colossal  - it should be massively stiff.  This is what I hate about monocogue cf frames. Head tubes, BB and mono stays are discusting. Look at Time, Look and Colnago if you want to see how a bike should look.

2. Problem if you dont like red bikes. Red bikes are faster, don't you know

Also' date=' what about a DeRosa Idol?

Oooh, very nice. Thumbs%20Up If you are looking for a beautiful, rare, hand made in Italy frame, that offers fair value for money, you cant go wrong with the Idol. SA agents are Marvuli.com if I'm not mistaken, sells for R16k, but that is without vat. Garzelli won 2 stages in the 07 Giro on it, so it has some racing cred. Add some of those red Fulcrum racing 0's and you will have a real head turner of a bike.

on dhe down side:

it is not ultra light

"Hand made in Italy" costs more, but is not in necessarily better, than "made in Taiwan"

You have to like ISP type frames
