So who of you had technicals today?

I went for a ride up the road last night just to make sure all was 'better' with AirBender's ride.

Got the the parking lot this morning and my back wheel was flat. I thought no problem. (all in the dark) Back wheel off, new tube in, tyre back on, pump. At about 7 bar I just heard this pop sound. In the new tube fitting I had pinched it between the tyre and the rim. 2nd spare in (last one), did it carefully and it was fine.

Now for the stress for a spare. Thankfully my father in law had 2 spares so he gave me one. My awesome wife went down to the start with us and searched for the guy selling tubes. She bought 2 and gave me one just in time before the start. :D

Awesomely it was the only technical issue I had today!

I had a chain jam into my FD at the top of Edinborough Drive and Top of Soetwater . Trying to change into the Big Ring whilst rideing my 25 at the back... CLEARLY this is NOT a good idea.

So, 2 x 1 minute stops... AND I still managed a 3:53 from group KK :P, so VERY happy this evening :P

My rear derailer went on the blink. Upshifts was very "tight" and it did not want to shift down. After pressing lever for downshifts nothing happened, only way I could get it to downshift was to yank the derailer cable next to the downtube quite hard, and it would then downshift, sometimes two or three gears. Struggled to keep up with sudden accellerations in the bunch because I could not get into lower gears fast enough. Caused me to work much harder to keep up with the bunch. Don't think it cost me a lot of time, though.

And then the front overshifted at the start of "little Chappies" and I could not get it back on the fly. Had to stop and put chain back by hand.

My only technical was me!

I put a new saddle on a couple days back and it bit me hard! One of the dumbest things i have done on a bike so far! I felt lame.

Good lesson for next time.

i saw lots of cyclists losing chains - the reason (i think) for the last 2 years riding into the wind meant that most of the riders were in small blade all the way to Smits. this year with little or no wind, meant big blade. the problem comes on the little bumps when one tends to shift until u are riding 52/25 and then suddenly realise that you need to shift down. off pops the chain. u just gently have to shift in back again, most times the FD cage will take the chain back onto the 52.

I always feel sorry for the guys (and girls) on the side of the road with punctures/other mechanicals on the day of the Argus. You really hope that if you are going to get a flat, it's during a training ride and not the "one" race during the year that so many fun riders look forward to!

I had an Andy Schleck chain going up Chappies! Sram Red on a Spez!:( Other than this very small incident, it was smooth sailing all the way to the finish in under 3 hours!
