I'm going to Wilderness on holiday over Easter and I want to ride some mtb trails while I'm there. Anyone have any info on nice mountain biking in the area?

Oh man I just did the Gardenroute 300.. theres so much to ride, Even so much more than the classics... but Do do:

Hakerville red route.

Petrus se brand

Homtini

Karatera has some trails that is amazing and takes you to the moon..

or just go to the local bikeshop and ask them to take you on a ride covering uncharted stuff.

I grew up in Knysna, Only did the redroute the first time after school, didnt even bother theres so much else.

If you have time and fitness, Ask Patric from Action cycles to take you on the route for the first day of the GR300.. Its unbelevable, Nothing like it, and youll spend at least 4 hours in indiginous forest & singletrack.

Why oh why would you be going to the southern cape when the mountain bike world cup is on in Maritzburg?

Don't get me wrong, I also grew up in Ge-orge but dude, the world cup circus is coming to town! Sell the kids, donate the wife, leave a 500kg back of pet food open at home and GO!!!

Oh yes, all the trails Bos suggested are great. Also check out the DH course above the Witvontein forestry station in George and if you want to do dirt road riding with elevation - Montague pass, or flat - dirt roads around the back of Wilderness down to Sedgefield along he edges of the vlei's - beautiful views and easy going if you taking someone with you who isn;t a die hard...

<hijack on> ... sorry

I'm going on holiday down to Knysna in April with the family. How technical are the easier Harkerville trails? I've got 2 boys (7 & 10 years) - will these be too difficult for them? Any other suggestions in the area for young kids?

Thanks

Hey CF - don't know if you searched for Harkerville threads, but here was one I put up some time back... Have a read here, might be helpful?

Regarding the little ones... Ja, might be a bit tricksy - especially if things are wet... Quite a distance as well... Having said that - if you have the time, and pack food etc - taking it slow will probably be fine... You can always walk the few spots that particularly steep/rooty etc...

Also - don't forget the yellow/orange/green(?) routes... They are shorter, and presumably - less technical. Just check in advance that they are open!

Enjoy!

Anyone know anything about a new trail out in the Plett area. Heard about it but not 100% sure!

Will definitely be keen to ride there, when going end of April.

Going up from about the 21st-27th.

Have done the Homtini trail. Only about 25km and takes about 1hr15 but has some of the fastest flowing singlertrack i have ever done. There will also be the Homtini race on the Wednesday 27th. Keen to try it.

Harkeville is also always a winner.

I will try find out about the trail in Plett and get back to you. Cant remember if it was just a rumour or if its real.
