Finality on the licence requirements for 2008.

OF NOTE IS THAT YOU NEED NOT BELONG TO A CLUB BUT CAN AFFILIATE DIRECTLY WITH YOUR PROVINCIAL BODY AND THE CYCLOSPORT AND RECREATIONAL LICENCE ARE MULTI DISCIPLINARY.

NEW CSA LICENCE REGULATIONS FOR 2008!<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

CSA have announced that it will commence rolling-out its new licence system. 1st January 2008 the new system will become compulsory, nationwide.

1.    The CSA Full Racing License

Events run under UCI regulation such as SA Champs, Provincial Champs and Stage races (and the like will, as usual), require an Elite (full racing licence) Licence. This is a Full Racing Licence for all categories i.e. Elites men and woman, Under 16's, Juniors, Under 23's and Vets.

For all other events, entrants who do not have a Full Racing License (Elite Licence) will require to have either a: Cyclo-Sport Licence or the new CSA Recreational Licence.

2.    The CSA Cyclo-Sport License

A License card will be issued and licence holders will continue to be required to be a member of a club or a member of their provincial body (i.e. CGC, Pedal Power Association). The price for a Cyclo-Sport Licence is R100, 00. This licence is multi-disciplinary, i.e. valid for Road, MTB, BMX and Track, where applicable.

3.    The CSA Recreational License/ Member License

This is an alternative to the Cyclo-Sport Licence and is intended for recreational cyclists who are not really interested in competition. No licence card will be issued initially but it will still be a requirement that the licence holder must be a member of a club or of their Provincial Body (i.e. CGC, Pedal Power Association). This licence fee will be R20,00. This will be paid by the Club or your Provincial Body (CGC or PPA). CSA Recreational Licences taken out from 1 September 2007 will be valid till 31 December 2008. This licence is multi-disciplinary, i.e. valid for Road, MTB, BMX and Track, where applicable.

4.    A Single Event Day Licence

If you are not a member of a Club or your Provincial body, then you will be required to take out a single event CSA Recreational License commonly known as "a day license". The cost will be R30,00 per event.

If a cyclist is not a member of a Club or their Provincial body (CGC or PPA) when entering The Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour on-line they will be required to pay for single event day licence for a fee of R30.00.

Great. Stupid question. No cards will be issued for recreational licences. How will I proof at The Fast One and Ride for sight that I have a licence. Will I receive a number, a letter , anything? smiley29.gif

When you regsister for recreational lic you need to supply your id number which will be added in a database. The orgs will the verify your entry when you pick up your number.

So what's the difference between the Cyclosport and the Recreational ones? Do you just get a card with the cyclosport license?

Also PPA show my licence (that I bought included in my Argus entry) as expiring end of April. I hope they now extend it to the end of the year.

Edited so as not to look like a total spastic for calling cyclosport, cyclocross.

Cyclocross ?? I think you mean cyclosport and yes you do get a card. With the cyclosport you will be seeded with full lic age and sex categories, elites vets etc if there is space available in the start group otherwise you will be seeded in ability category using the national seeding index.
