By now I know that the track is only half finished.

At least I bought some of Nitida's Sauvignon Blanc and had a great steak sandwich at the restaurant.

The top 100m or so has great briges and berms, the rest still need berms built up and perhaps a few rollers or jumps put in and the tail end needs some extension and an exciting finish.

When will it be completed and when will the official opening be? I've got some wild friends and family chomping at the bit.

Anybody knows more?

When I was there on Saturday, I spoke to the guy who was in charge of building the track, he said that the course I as complete as it is, maybe fixing up some of the berms a bit, but thats it. I also thought that they were still busy because the bottom bit is quite boring. I mentioned that the should consider adding maybe one or two tabletops but it seems like they are going to keep it like that, a bit disappointing...

That would be very sad indeed because the top part is seriously quick and cool. The bottom simply needs a bit more work to make the whole thing great. All that is needed is a few more berms so you can keep your speed around all the corners and a few bumps, rollers, tabletops to spice things up. There is enough space.

It looks like someone started with a great idea and lots of energy but ran out of Red Bull halfway through.

I agree can be made so much cooler!

they may have underestimated the interest from more advanced riders. It's clear the intention was just a fun family experience without scaring everyone off with tables, rollers and jumps.

I still think though, that this is a brilliant development, and we need more DS tracks. Glad the western cape was the first to actually do it  all the good organized events are up north.. f'ing sux!

A DS track that can keep the more advanced riders and competitive types interested doesn't have to be so technical that beginners and kids cannot ride it safely and have fun too. There's nothing dangerous about rollers and tabletops if you do them slowly. If you do them fast then you fly, of course. The Dirtopia Festival's DS track is good proof of this.

I've often marvelled at how everybody from little kiddies on 12" bikes to seriously cool dudes on DJ bikes lined up in droves to get in as many practice runs as possible. There were always fathers and sons racing each other, friends and foes doing the same and some youngsters just going round and round all day long for fun. You won't beleive how often the youngsters outclassed the adults! Before the competition started, spectators (mothers, fathers, children, aforementioned friends and enemies) all lined the course to cheer the riders and sometimes to pick up the debris after a crash. The competition normally started in a smiley and friendly manner, but that soon gave way to more determined looks and eventually openly adversary stares during the one on one combat until there was only one winner left!

Maybe I'm getting a bit carried away, but I think this has great potential for a regular Saturday afternoon fun thing to do.

I agree - a friend and I rode the track this morning. It was great fun for both me (coming from a XC / trail background) and him (coming from a dirt jump / DH background) but we both felt the track could be a bit longer, and could do with a couple of rollers and tabletops. something that can still be beginner, but can be advanced if you decide to send it.

kudos to the guys for building a kick ass track though, i thoroughly enjoyed myself and will definitely be back. my best run was +- 35 seconds

The DS track at natida is a load of fun and most people enjoy it but here is a thought.

It's too short ,it needs this and that......well it was built by Tygerberg mtb club to further the sport. They have also built and upkeep nearly 120km of tracks in the durbanville region.Yes they have 1400 members but still the funding does not really cover all the upkeep and new projects.

If us non members paid our R25 day permits or put the money in the honesty box well then maybe the DS track would be longer and would have this and that??

The guys and girls from the club who build and upkeep the trails give there time and energy freely sothat the rest of us can enjoy ourselves so maybe we should offer to help out one saterday or at least pay our R25 before we complain so easily??

I put R50 in the honesty box this morning for myself and my mate, like a good boy. Name the date and I will gladly come swing a spade (in fact I have offered a couple of times to help out with Majik Forest maintenance but have not been taken up on my offer yet - I am not a club member though). I'm sorry to say, but it's a bit presumptious of you to assume that I neither paid my R25 nor am willing to help. Besides, no-one's complaining - this is just some constructive criticism, use it don't use it.

Wes I doubt that was meant personally mate, What he says is entirely true, Now the fact that you pay your dues and and that you volunteered is excellent, the MTB community needs more guys like you.

Its however a sad fact that a great multitude of people dont pay the trail fee's or bother giving any consideration to the guys and gals sweatting it out making MTB in the western cape the experaince it is. They dovetail onto the trails, destroy them by **** riding, and go home and then complain about this and that.

So please dont take offence at the above statement, as there is a lot of truth and value in it.

Sorry if I offended you but I never stated that it was you who did not pay??

I was refering to the many cyclists out there that think it is a luck if they get away with not paying cause they are doing us all in??

Sorry for my reaction, but I was one of the guys "complaining" hence me responding the way I did. My bad ;) . I agree with you wholeheartedly, it is in incredibly bad taste to grab a "free ride" when someone else's money and sweat has gone into a project such as this. I also just responded to clarify that I'm not complaining, but simply offering feedback.

what have i done?
