Hi there. I'm driving from CT to PE on thursday and was wondering if anyone who went up for the ironman can give me info on the state of road works on the way there. I'm trying to decide if I should go on the N2 or the R62 to oudtshoorn and then across. Anyone have any info

News24.com Traffic Report says that there are 4 sets of road works @ Swellendam.

I would go N1, Worcester, Robertson, Barrydale, Oudshoorn and then across to Humansdorp.

The N2 way is great until Wilderness, and then all the speed limits are a PITA all the way to Stormsriver.

Splat's got it right. Roadworks still in progress so Stop-Go's as per previous post. Might even still be one after Humansdorp as well, as they're resurfacing towards Jeffs. Might not miss all of them but one's not too bad. Maybe you're lucky and time it just perfectly. Have a safe trip dude. :)

Thanks for the help. I see it's about 100km longer to go on the R62 versus the N2 but maybe worth it with all the stop goes.

The R62 is a nice road, well worth it. I drove it after the Argus. Got back on the N2 at Knysna. There are no more roadworks after that....except for the road painting between Jbay and H'dorp, but the N@ bypasses that...

I rode the R62 from Swellendam to Oudtshoorn and it was awesome, returned to Somerset West via R62 until Grabouw. If your doing it in the day, do the R62 - it was the best part of the whole trip.

Now I'm planning my cycle tour of R62 as a result ;)

Leaving for Plett on Friday. Should i use the same route - N1?

We are also heading up on Friday - early bells.

I am hoping that they suspend roadworks for the weekend and its open all tha way.

My Mother in Law is driving up today. I will get a report from her later.

Do you mean across to George? You might still hit the traffic between George and Plett, which can be very busy.

Alternatively, once past Oudtshoorn on the way to George, the road forks at about 25km. Either turn right towards George, or left to continue with R62. We did the R62 two years in a row, and really enjoyed the drive. Make sure you turn off towards Joubertina and Kareedouw and you drive through the Langkloof. Roads are a bit narrower and sometimes one can get caught behind a truck or caravan. But far less traffic. You re-join the N2 just before Humansdorp.
