Can somebody please help me. Is the the Scott Scale 899 that Nino Shurter just won on a 26 inch or a 29? If it is a 26er can somebody please then explain HOW DID HE WIN?????????????

I love this chirp!! The best of the year so far! How these 29er fans will pissed off when the pro's reveal that they only ride them because they have to create a market. Pricelss bud

Wrong, 899 is a 26er frame that weighs, wait for it....899 grams. The only difference was that it was a 2011 graphics package.

Seeing as we're talking numbers, I really liked his 950g (per set) DT Swiss carbon tubbies (XRC950T's) with 50mm diameter Dugast rubber. Noted also that Scott Swisspower's 29ers were wearing narrower Dugasts than their 26" bikes (possibly to offset the weight of the heavier wheels?)

Nino is a beast and i think he'll take the world cup bu not necessarily be world champ. That being said, Burry is up there with them. I reckon he did very well coming in at 11th with a mechanical carried from end lap 1.

Bar ends as well? seriously not cool.

I suppose if you win a world cup race, you can wear a pink g-string over your kit and get away with it! (but only if you win :) )

Thanks. Even Andrew Mclean changed his tune a bit saying "everyone should be riding 29ers", (granted he did say for the epic) to "there still seems to be a place for the 26er."

My take on the 29er is.

1. Best on flat jeep track rodes.

2. Best on flat gravel rodes.

3. Best over rocky desents.....oops not too rocky ask super Burry.

Now I dont know about you guys but I do mtb to do the nice twisty stuff, the nice rocky desents and the nice single track.(pretty much what the guys on Saturday were doing, granted not those heavy rocky desents) I think thats mtb.

If I wanted to be fast on gravel rodes I'd put some noblies on my racing bike.

Looking at Scott.com, the 899 is sexy and weighs 899g, so does the RC weigh 899g. Zaskar sucks so does 29ers. LOL :P

ALL of that on the Scott website! ohmy.gif

Stirring further - Would Burry have crashed if he was on a 26er? I was at the rock garden and saw all types of bikes crashing including full suspension, 29ers and 26ers - interesting the one bike I saw that hardly ever hit the dirt was the GT zaskar - but again they were not exactly on the front either sadly!

I like that comment as I ride a Zaskar  Also, Nino Schurter seemed to handle those rock gardens extremely well on his 26er, or is it just the rider?? :)

IANAE but I think it's a case of the best tool for the job. On a tight XCO course I believe a 26er is better, but on a marathon 29ers have the edge. A simplistic view, as a lot of other factors must come into play...

Its the same where everyone says stay away froom 29"er dual sussies, 'you'll never win blah blah" then Stander goes and whips everyones asses on 29 DS. Ive said it again with these guys you could put them on a BMX and they will still whipp ass.

And like other peeps pointed out on the kevin evans thread they get sponsored what to ride. so if the co wants to market their 29'er range they will supply the pro's with a 29'ers. If Stander was given a 26" bike for the epic im still of the opinion he would have won anyway.

That rock garden had two lines - as the rider approached it - safe to left fast & risky to right. The full sussers & 29ers did not seem to handle the right side line any better than the 26er hartdtais. The top guys & girls on the 26 hard tails seemed to be able to float the rear tyre over the rocks by using their front brakes and / or weight shift. The guys on the 29ers & full sussers seemed to lose it because they were relying more on the bike as opposed to their skill and did not pick their lines as carefully - just my impression. The Zaskar riders just appeared to be the most well balanced through the rock garden. Btw I don't ride a Zaskar, but after watching them cruise through that rock garden with ease, I am on the lookout for one! The two most spectacular crashes were both specialised - one a full susser, the other sadly Burry on his spez 29er.

have to agree with something here. I ride a dualie, never owned a hardtail. And I have to agree the dualie has gotten me out of alot of trouble. I rely on the bike more than my skill to get out of trouble. But then I am usually at the back, so dont mind walking all that much :)
