Nah, not as spectacular as you would think. Involves a heaving line being thrown/shot across, attached to a piece of braided nylon rope, which is then hauled across, wound around a capstan/winch and hauled in to pull a thick steel wire rope across.

 

Steel rope is attached to a anchor cable which is then winched across and attached to towing eyes on the foc'sle of the tanker, and strung in a long catenary towing bridle between the two vessels. to take up any shock-loads as the tug tows the tanker away.

 

All very exciting in progress, followed by extremely boring on the tow.
