Well today here is a thumbs up for Cajees at Princess Crossing. I stopped this afternoon to buy a bottle of squirt, its normally R75 and without asking the lady made it R60.

So, this time I did not ask for a discount (after all its a R75 bottle of lube!) and I got one!

It's just as easily your own fault for not requesting an invoice ..... In my business, and any business I know of, no proof of purchase means absolutely no discussion around exchange or refund will be entered into. Get over yourselves, bike shops aren't in it to be your BFF and your facespace buddy, and they sure as **** aint in it to be a charity. FFS!

Such harsh words ....

Listen up: I bought the goods in good faith, for occasional personal purchases I don't fuss over receipts / invoices but keep CC slips, that is sufficient Proof of Purchase. So I return with the faulty goods (worth R900) and I am given the run-around because I cant produce an Invoice which I was never issued. Bollox! I will not go back to that shop ever.

In our business, we have every Invoice in our database for the last 20 years, along with Serial Numbers and will happily look up and print out copies for customers for whatever reason. We also know about customer service and often make compromises, sometimes in very trying circumstances with very difficult customers. We reach compromises and always try and settle amicably. But that's a choice we make: if you want to be hostile to your customers and hide behind such excuses when it comes to customer service its ur choice, needless to say I hope I don't ever do business with you whoever you may be.

I still say you should have asked for an invoice. Also, maybe some businesses have been taken for a ride by miscreants enough times that they are a tad unwilling to compromise.

Oh, and not doing business with a particular shop, or not going back to a shop cause you couldn't meet their rules, is your choice.

I experienced the same at Centurion Cajees. Never had bad dealings with them. Bought my tandem there about two years ago at a price well below the suggested retail. Francois, the salesman who helped me back then still remembers me when I walk in there, always asking whether we still enjoy the tandem:) Bought a suspension fork from them recently, gave me discount without me having to bargain and the price was unbeatable. Can't say whether their bike servicing is good, but I will buy from them anytime when the price it right

If I remember correctly they opened during the last quarter of 2009, so probably little less than 2 years now.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you. Its a legal responsibility of any business to keep adequate records and an acceptable paper trail of sales- In fact its law - many customers forget this.

Returning to a shop with a CC slip should enable the business to check his records of sales on that day and the two should match, hense a confirmed proof of purchase.

As I am naturally cynical I would be very suspicious of shops that would not accept a CC slip as proof of purchase, it would suggest to me they are not keeping adequate records.

Of course if you pay cash, you really need to keep the invoices, but I cant see any reason why a CC SLIP can not be accepted.

Some good advice.....

If cycling is your sport, then treat your LBS like he is your lawyer, doctor or accountant.

You must be able to call him any time, day or night :) - no questions asked or prices for that matter. When you need him he is there for you.

So instead of trying to save a buck create a real relationship.

BTW. Watched this TV program on gambling. This one lady spent like $4m over 7 years at this one casino - and she says she enjoys gambling no regrets. When she walks in the door they rush to carry her drinks and make her comfortable. When her husband died they even had a memorial service held for free for this lady's husband. Anyway she is a valued client.

Its all about relationships. My LBS will match any price, in return I will only buy from them. Quid Pro Quo my good friend. Yesterday whilst visiting my LBS I was given a cycling jersey as a thank you for my dedicated support. So Im happy and they are happy. Suppose I would also be happy if somebody spent R120k in a year at my shop

Cajee's will always discount things without you asking, but you have to laugh at their mark-ups on most stuff. I saw a bike in the Boksburg branch yesterday retailing for R10000, which is more than R3K more expensive than anywhere else.
