Service of bikes

I just want to ask the question:  If one pays for a service and you get your bike back, and when you ride your bike, your gears are jumping, wheels are loose, etc is is just me that is difficult when I take it back and complain (and then being informed that I have to CHECK my bike)?  Or would you guys say that it is the shops resposibility to ensure your bike is in 100% working condition when it is collected?

Surely it's like when I take my car in for a service, they won't let me take it till the service advisor has taken a test drive!

Yea they should check the bike properly before giving it back to the customer. Iv had that problem one to many times so I invested in a Park Tools service kit and now do it all myself apart from truing wheels. I find its much better that way and I enjoy working on my bike!

What if you get informed "that it is not their fault"? Hey guys a life is on stake when riding your bike (more so mtb'ing)!!  Is it because guys think girls don't know anything and are just being difficult?

I'm sorry but this is hysterical LOLLOLLOL It is exactly that Wink I have almost gotten over it.....ALMOST. Even if I dont know bout bikes surely you should treat me as if I am older than 12??? I try and watch my guy friends while they fix things on my bike now.....that way no one can bullsh*t me the next time I take it round to a shop........IF i do again.......

smiley4.gif ,

quicksilver, girls normally dont DO machenic things on their bikes,

thats why they take their bikes to a bikeshop, pay for a service and expect to have a rideable bike afterwards.

Geco Cycles - been going there for the last few years.

Get a new bike shop to do your services or learn to do it yourself.

Sure it's the bike shop's duty to service/repair as they charge you for doing the job.

However, it also must be remembered that, like motor vehicle workshops, hospitals, lawyers and even doctors, some things get overlooked from time to time. It is always better to check something when you collect (yes I know its not always possible).

But its what happens when you bring these problems to their attention that counts. Imagine if they'd said 'sorry, well fetch it and do it properly' or fixed it and given you a voucher for a free service next time.

Would you then have written something like this? I somehow doubt it.

Agreed - there is a lot to be said for a good recovery.

There are certain shops I won't deal with simply because they do a sloppy job and don't want to be accountable for their action (or lack there of)

Steve, I wrote and asked simply because I did bring it to their attention and they didn't say sorry, nor offered to fix it on their own cost!!  It just never their problem after collecting the bike.

I'm a loyal customer and it is hard if it keeps on happening on a regular basis - evn if one does mention it.

Maybe it is time for a change!

BBBR, We know each other very well, between my and your experiences at that shop, .. YES.. Go get another LBS.

Now you going to asked which one, damm hard to recommend.

I'm with Chris Willemse at this stage and I told them from the beginning, I don't want to come back again after they repair something..

I want it fixed. Thats why I pay what they asked..

I do not asked discount.. NEVER.... but give me what I pay for.

And so far, I had no problems, Everytime is done the way I want it.

Even got a e-mail afterwards (about 4 days later) to asked if I'm happy.

So, If you asked me? give them a try. They stock the same cycling stuff as well at great prices.

You can only benefit to go to their shop.

Go to Oom Chris and Klein Chris, tell them who you are, what you expect... you wont be sorry.
