it seems to be a general issue with these wheels, check the reviews on MTBR.com, far too many people complaining about the hubs/freewheel bodies failing and it seems that AC support is completely underwhelming. Just as good, i was quite interested in a pair but will stay far away

My 26er ACs totally disengaged last weekend 5ks into the ride, sounded like one of bearings exploded in the freewheel. Had the LBS replace all of them, going to cost be R500 with labour! Ouch.

Hopefully I dont need to change them too often. Other than that they are amazingly strong wheels!

How often should I be servicing the freewheel so I can avoid any future issues?

tommy what bearing are they putting in ?

After the 3 tOWERS last year I had the bearings in both hubs as well as the free wheel bearing replaced and they were really cheap like 40 bucks a bearing or something, wheels were feeling grindy after 3 wettish days but afther the replacements, smooth a silk !

hmmm, just read this not after forking out R110 a bearing. They are custom sealed bearings from bearing man. Lesson learnt need to source my own bearings next time. wheels feel great though.

Ok I ride AC road wheels. But.. only after three years of training and racing did I have a similar problem. Also a free body/pawl engagement prob.. the fix was a little bit expensive but since then (that would be about 1 year ago) I have had no other problems. And man these wheels are not super expensive, but they are light! And climb like a dream! I actually plan to but another set in November. Just not those white/red ones.

The MTB rims I cannot comment on.

you can get all the bearings for the wheels from rushsports.co.za for R250 it does both hubs with good quality enduro bearings.

I raced the 100 miler on my hub after my repair that cost me nothing :)

all I did was bend the spring...so far so good
