Tumbleweed Posted May 17, 2011 Share Not heard this before, but its on The Hub so must be true I can understand it though. Will need to read up about it. My wife got a fine for not voting last year, she had to send a police affidavit stating why she couldn't vote and obviously prove she is now living in SA. First time I heard it too. But he said his mum had to explain at every election that she was a Jehovah's Witness to avoid the fine.
Caerus Posted May 17, 2011 Share Well, maybe I will vote someday and one day my kids will decide for themselves if they will vote or not. My question is: What do you really know about the party/person you vote for? My bet is that most don't know a lot about that person, his believes, morals, standards etc. They vote for that person/party because the don't like the opposition. What I don't get is this: Pre 1994, most whites voted for the NP. That party set Nelson Mandela free. Today, the ANC rules the country because of what happened on that day in 1994. And now the whites don't like what is going on. **** man, you voted for the NP. You voted for apartheid - weither you believed in it or not does not matter! As for the next 4 years you are stuck with what you voted for! And then you "voted" for Nelson Mandela to be set free - weither you believed in it or not. Look, I am not saying apartheid was right and Nelson Mandela should never have been set free. What I am saying is BECAUSE you voted for a prick you believed in, but knew nothing about, we are where we are today in this beautiful country of ours. We don't ever make informed desicions. We act like sheep. Black and white! They vote for the ANC and you for the DP - Desicions based on race it looks like to me. And still it is us versus them. And here we are again - thinking that your vote will makes things better. When you cast your vote tomorrow, think about what you are doing. The guy you vote for, might drop a bomb on Japan. Kill Jews. Kick farmers off there farms. Crash a plane into a building. Belive rhino horn will make him more of man. Or how about molest young boys like the president of I think Norway/Finland last year... One day I will cast my vote. But it will be because I truely know the person I am voting for. Mmmmm. Personally I hate voting because I think democracy is the worst form of system available to a country but if we decided to veto something based on the fact that there was no transparency then we would never leave our houses. Life is about making the best of the situation that life hands you and if voting means, at best, making a mark to protest a government/system that you do not agree with then that is what you must do! These are my feelings of course - each of us have our own - aint that the fun thing about choice? How does it go? I don't believe in what you're fighting for but I'll defend to the death your right to fight for it?
Big H* Posted May 17, 2011 Share If you do not vote and the winning party get 51 votes and the opposition gets 30 votes and 19 did not vote, the winning party will claim those votes. It is your duty to vote for whichever party, but do not give "free" votes to the winning party.

One day I will cast my vote. But it will be because I truely know the person I am voting for. Hmm, interesting MJ, it may be the case in some countries, but South Africa has a three tier system, so the actual person you are voting for is just the face of the party in your area and as individual people they have zero legislative powers, its only the ruling National, Provincial or Local government that has the legislative powers, and those powers can only be excercised under the umbrella of the constitution, which I think in SA is very strong. Dont you think almost everyone votes for a person or party because they dont like the opposition MJ? Its par for the course worldwide, in every country, in every democracy, basically its why there is an opposition, otherwise we would all just be a one party states, which in my opinion is also pretty undesireable. ...but Fair enough, democracy means you have the right to excercise your vote, or to abstain and withdraw your vote, its your choice and I hear your argument, I dont necessarily agree (but, you see, thats democracy and my right )but I accept your right to choose. mallo Posted May 17, 2011 Share We dont need free votes, we are dumb enough to keep ANC in power corruption and all. Problem with the opposition is they all power hungry instead of working with one another to defeat us At the end of the week the ANC would have gained more from this election than the past due to all the splinter parties and their wishful thinking. The DA should be honest to itself and publically announce their true stance as I believe they not interested in us the normal working class as is evident in the Cape where you have the distinct divide of the elite versus the masses out on the Cape flats and in the townships. For the past three and a half years what has your party done for you and your ward?

Handlebar Posted May 17, 2011 Share Next time they give you all that civic bulls*** about voting, keep in mind that Hitler was elected in a full, free democratic election~Carlin Ja, could also be attributed to voter apathy. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
mallo Posted May 17, 2011 Share This corrupt government has given me the right to vote, to stay where I choose, to educate my kids where I want to, has tarred all the streets in Soweto, has given me the right to go where and when I want to, and many more options I ever had under the old government. I am the first to admit that they are corrupt, yet they still get my vote, show me what the DA has done for my people, In the lovely Cape the two squatter camps ae getting bigger by the day, why?
