gummibear Posted May 20, 2011 Share Not to be funny but most "sprinters" can climb, they just not as fast as the super skinny 60kg riders, who in most cases are super-human anyway. Sprint finishes are fun to watch but there is nothing like a mountain finish to a race. I take my hat off to all the sprinters who do vasbyt and finish a tour....even if it is a few hours down
AndreZA Posted May 20, 2011 Share Now THAT would be something to watch You don't just have to finish it the fastest but also still have all you equipment and all riders need to be alive. +10 second for every bike stolen and +50 seconds for every dead rider. DaLoCo Posted May 20, 2011 Share +50 seconds for every dead rider. And one week in the sin bin for poor taste

That is very funny because that is like saying most "climbers" can sprint, but they're just not as fast as the super strong 70kg riders!
andydude Posted May 20, 2011 Share I guess the question is if the Giro is x number of one-day classics or 1 grand tour. I think winning one stage will even earn you UCI points? The problem with quitting is that you can't win the overall sprinters jersey, for what it's worth. That is Petacchi's prediciment, because if he quits he loses that. But stage wins can't be taken away. And changing the rules won't work, because you can just ride slower and miss the cut-off. Or fake a medical. Or complain about the food. And neither would having teams of 20 with only 10 riding. How would you add the time of "new" riders coming in. It's probably not great to see, but maybe the organisers should've planned the route better with one or two sprint stages in the last week. The sprinters climb the TdF mountains, so I'm sure they can make these as well.
SwissVan Posted May 21, 2011 Share Nice to see Mr Hunter hanging tough Ok so some will say he is not in the same class as the other waonkers that dropped out, but still he is a sprinter...
