what was up with babba's today? the 35km was only 23km, so has the route now change to the one we rode today for future races or was that just a once off event? couldnt really hear the guy on the speakers(very good improvement for the event, just needs some tweaking)

would love to know how long the guys doing the 70km rode for, 50km i guess if not less?

That just ticks me off. I was going to go but didn't. Most of the races I do never land up being the said distance! FFS, How hard can it b to measure it out correctly?

The 35km was 23km, while the 70km rode only 40km.

The 3 km on one lap is the start point to the entrance into the reserve, that gets left out on the second lap.

Not a pleasant ride, with everyone bunching up as a result of the much shorter routes.

According to the race organizer the bottom camps were not available as the lions that reside in those camps were loose, instead of being in the boma's where they are normally kept.

The lions are supposed to be tame, but will chase anythings that runs (moves fast) to "play with."

Do the lions know that they are supposed to be tame?

Lions are only a problem if you are slower than the second slowest cyclist :D

The field is becoming more and more congested.

In the past there would be between 300-400 cyclists entered.

The last few months that was the number of pre-entries alone, with the same amount doing line entries.

What I also found strange was the amount of mud on the riders at the finsih line, as it has not rained in quite a while.

Where is the mud coming from? We are into winter already.

As far as the lions go, they will (hopefully) only grab one rider, thinnning out the field somewhat, and allowing the other riders to pass through unharmed.

It should also increase the average speeds somewhat.

The sand was shocking, but it was still fun.

Yeah we passed a lot of the 'halfies' but personally I never had a hold-up, most of them were actually quite encouraging, so had a good race nonetheless.

if there's lions, i don't trust that little 50 year old & rusty gate that keeps them in there!

I really miss the old route with the 2nd hill and that loooong single track section.

Will be awesome if they can fix that up a again!
