....and not to forget you can change the crank length too. The lightest and stiffest in the world...need I say more?

I don't see that Cannondale cranks in there?

Spinnekop...if I'm not mistaken they were on par with the Zipps. They just listed the most widely used cranks on the graph.

The Time looks the same as the last couple of years. Black & white paint does not look as nice as the red ones did imo. Time for them to launch something new? ;)

Two very contrasting frames, both with very destinctive looks:

First up, the Cervelo S5. The frame looks very unconventional, like a road going P3. Cervelo have been one of the leading innovaters as far as frame design goes, and I'm sure this frame will be at the cutting edge of aerodynamics and structural engineering and materials

http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2011/06/29/1309338030352-15opnvvu203vc-670-75.jpg

Next up is the Pinarello Dogma2. It looks similar to the Dogma1, with less paint on the outside. The akward lip on the head tube have been removed, and the fork to frame junktion smoothed, which improves the looks imo. 2 things I wonder about:

Will it cost more than Dogma1?

How much lighter will it be?

GOOD NEWS:

1. Frame will not be more expensive than DOGMA 1  Frames should retail for between R40k and R45k incl if the exchange rate holds.

2. As far as weight goes (and we have noticed several critical quotes from some of you on the issue of Pinarello DOGMA weight, R&D, etc.) we will post something soon to give more info (a lot of inaccurate information has been doing the rounds and perhaps it is time to set the record straight). An interesting initial comment is that the DOGMA bikes for GIRO came in at 6.7 (SKY) and 6.8 (Movistar) - was some of the lightest complete bikes around. Obviously all bikes have to be min 6.8 to race and these bikes could get down to that weight comfortably. Pinarello is one of the smaller players in the global market (you wouldn't say so) and have been holding there own (and some - bike of the year 4 years running in USA and Italy) against huge bike companies like GIANT, Cannondale, Specialised, etc with much bigger budgets, etc. They have been building bikes since 1922 and have an incredible history in bike manufacturing excellence. A visit to Pinarello in Treviso will make it clear in no time how much time and effort is invested in frame design and bike R&D...you don't win bike of the year against the big boys 4 years running with just nice paint jobs :)...in all of this weight is only one consideration. If you had to ask Fausto Pinarello he will tell you that it is the easiest thing to build a frame that weighs nothing but he is not prepared to do that and sacrifice all the other important considerations that goes into building the 'complete racing bike' - the ultimate Pinarello challenge.

Locally team Bonitas are sponsored with DOGMA's and if you speak to Magnus (team mechanic) he will tell you that the bikes go down to 6.8 easily (Super Record 11 and Bora II racing wheels).

Anyways, this is always a very interesting debate and we look forward to much more of it...perhaps we need a post on what makes the perfect bike (i.e. not just weight).

BAD NEWS

The DOGMA2 will not be available until early 2012

Regards

Hi ASG, thanks for the info.

I'm not anti-Pinarello, I'm just not a fan of the new carbon Dogma. I thought the prevous magnesium one was great, if I could get my hand on one I would grab it in a flash.

I'll save the debate on the structural engineering of bikes for another day ;)

Also one of my favourites. One day maybe.
