sheesh, this thread is still going.

Ultimately you choose if you want to do a race - no one forces you to do it. I am a pure roadie but the call of dirt is alluring.... just the price of a bike and the maintenance attached is too much for my budget.

So I only do races that #1 Appeal to me and #2 I can afford. I try do one race a month, sometimes two, but all within MY budget.

In the end, are you riding / training to race? or are you riding because you enjoy it? I ride because I enjoy it and I race to test myself against people of a similar caliber. I don't need to race - I get enough race training from the guys I ride with occasionally. I race for the atmosphere - I have competitive tendencies.....

But the mtb - stop thinking and just buy!

The advantage of enterring mtb races is that (if you choose the right ones) you get to ride on private farm land and nature reserves normally closed to mtbers.

It's awesome. Just do it!

Not what I was getting at...... but I am getting a Yamaha Tenere 660 though..... do the dirt without the effort.

I know - I was just highlighting one of the advantages of mtb over road. Road you pay for closure on roads you could ride any day of the week. Yawn!

Buy both - I have a Honda XR650R - awesome bikes.

I find swapping from mtb to motorbike tough though - mtb is all about the smoothest line - motorbike is all about the fastest line. Different mindset!

Enjoy! Dirtbikes rock!
