I killed my pads in the mud the otherday and I've replaced them with shimano resin pads. I had to rebleed the system completely and the pressure feels good.

Ive done about 50 km of road riding using the brakes every now and then, but when I do, they scream like a sonnavabitch. Its so loud, im almost ashamed to stop for anything, except cars and trucks ofcorse. The bikes stopping perforance is rather poor too. It stops... well sort of ;)

Do I just need to ride them until they stop making a noise?

A couple of things spring to mind:

- Clean your rotors

- take the glaze off your pads by using some sandpaper

- put some copperslip onto the back of your pads.

If the above don't stop the sqeal, by some Hopes :)

The process is as follows.

1. Remove stuffed pads

2. Clean disc with rubbing alcahol/spirits or even windolene.

3. Roughen up the surface of new pads on either rough sand paper or just on the paving.

4. Place pads in calipers and go for a ride. Do a few hard stops.

5. Squeal should be gone.

If the advice above doesn't do the trick you'll probably need to fork out for a new set of pads. I spent weeks trying to sort my XT rear brakes out and nothing did the trick. Turns out the pads were totally stuffed (after only a few months use) so I replaced them and the noise is now gone.

Thanks for the advise. The current pads are brand new. Ive done about 50km on them (open road riding with very little braking)

Ill get some sandpaper to clean the rotors :) Are resin pads known to make a lot of noise? They were cheapie Shimano M485 pads (R100 or so)

Resin pads are supposed to be quieter than their metallic counterparts...

Automotive brake cleaner works very well on rotors - give them a good clean after a light sanding.

Copperslip behind the pads works too.
