Thule 3 rack bike carrier

Ditto on that question... I see the standard price at Thule is about R8k - that's a bit steep...

 

Related to that I recently bought the small compact Thule 2 bike carrier (Xpress) - which is great/easy to use except I've noticed that the rims and tyres get really hot from my car's exhausts... I tried adjusting it so the bikes sit as high as possible but this has had no real effect... Anyone have similar issues and any solutions? I assume this cannot be good for either the rim or the tyres...

 

Because of the above I am thinking the 3 bike carrier with the solid base may be my only option given the position of my car's exhausts...

I looked at Thule, but went with Atera - BuyCycle had quite good prices on them:

Got the 3 bike rack. Worked well for me so far, bit of a jigsaw with all 3 MTB on - but quite snug when all locked in place.

hmmm this is old - can't recall where I got that price from but think it might have been the more expensive one (with the LED lights that can also be expanded to 4 bikes with a add on)...

 

I ended up getting the euroride from cycle lab for R6080 (net of my club discount) - was cheaper than could get direct from Thule (R6399). Must say very happy with the purchase - although I had to get some adapters made for my exhausts after melting my MTB tyres!
