I'm new on here, so forgive me if this question has been raised before !!

I am starting out in triathlons and am looking at getting a good second hand wet suit.

I am 1.88m tall and 89kgs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Neil.

This should give you some idea, but if I were you I will go try on some wetsuits just for sizing; (Source. xterra wetsuits)

You have to try a wetsuit on, you just cant buy a wetsuit without checking the fit. Remember EVERY SINGLE WETSUIT BAR NONE are hand made, that means there are ALWAYS little differences in the cut and stitch process, sometimes big differences and a chart is just a rough guideline, you can try two suits the same size and both will fit differently, when a suit fits properly there should be no air bubbles, don't listen to the salesman if he says its okay - its not - crouch down and feel if it pulls on your shoulders or groin, the sleeves must end just above the wrist bone and the legs just above the ankle bone - lastly make sure your suit is either locally made or is manufactured cut and styled for a "Western" body fit,- there are hundreds of Asian suits coming into the SA market which are cut and styled for the Asian body fit - ITS NOT THE SAME PATTERN - the Asia body shape cut suits will NOT FIT PROPERLY - yes they are cheap, but there's always a reason.........!

If you say "triathlons" do you mean short course or IM and half IM. There seems to be a general confusion between a wetsuit and a tri-suit.

Being from East Londen I guess you are thinking 70.3.

Second hand is not the way to go in my opinion. Last months Triathlon (or triathlete) Magazine has review about a few cool suits.

HI There Niel

Terry from Xterra Wetsuits and now Triathlon gear here.

Ja I agree with the above comments regarding buying second hand. What I suggest is if you can let me know if you just want to do one event or if you want to get into the sport. I will be happy to rent a suit out for the event that you are doing. if you decide to buy then I dedcut the rental amount off the sale price.

sizing is very NB

Gadget is showing you the Xterra wetsuits Sizing chart. I have the metric version and in Xterra sizing you would fit nicely into a med LRG. Nothing is set in stone though as also mentioned above you will only really know once you test the suit in the water. If the sizing is wrong we swop out simple as that.

This is my number 0794824658 and lets talk about your options and any help that you may need.

Best wishes

IMO its not worth getting a wetsuit while you're "starting out" triathlons. Its something that you literally only use for IM and IM70.3, the rest of the year it takes up cupboard space.

And for some of those training swims in the atlantic - summer or winter
