Don't know who noticed, but the tri season is starting eeeeeeeeeeeeeearly this year!!! Joburg City has its first race even before the BSG series gets underway. Its on 25 September, so no easing into the season with a sprint or two this year

i take it they going to be using Germiston lake again. not too sure if that is such a good idea after last years problems with water quality? The BSG race isnt being held there no more exactly for this reason so im not too sure if i will be racing there till i see the results of the water tests :nuke:

Yes. That dam is sif. Last year I nearly puked during the BSG. Did you smell that water. Dit het soos hondestront geruik.

Maybe they will have a duathlon again also like last year.

They need to inform us in advance. If we aint swimming then I would rather do the race for victory that day

i agree that they must let us know in time... im not putting this race in my calender till i know for sure what is happening. im really looking forward to the BSG series  booked my accomodation for the midmar race last week so cant wait!

The Midmar half IM? Guess what.... it was like 35 degrees this year and they ran out of water!! So they gave us dam water!

Then you should also look at the Prestige Ulltra in Des (Van der Bijl)

and the Buffelspoort in February

Both are 70.3's and well organised.

no garfield im going down for the BSG midmar race, i stay in vanderbijlpark so the prestige is my home race so to speak.... i did the buffelspoort race too, what you think about the 5150 series? you think its gonna take off?

Posted

It should. It is just a bit expensive and that is why I didn't enter....

Something like R800 for 2 hours racing is a lot of money....

BSG should move a race to Buffelspoort. Thats an awesome dam!

So this is going to be my first full tri season and I intend on doing as many races as possible. What are the good ones and the not so good ones to look out for?

there are not too many events up here, so do events on a basis of when it suits you and what you can afford.

to me personally Xterra is a highlight and the BSG series is lots of fun. Doing an IM event is certainly a great experience, so if you have the cash, IM or IM70.3 is also a worthwhile experience.

I have already entered for 70.3 and will more than likely also give IM a shot in April. On my radar so far also is Jhb City tri's, the 11 Global in Sun City and the Prestige Ultra in Dec - unfortunately missing the 5150 due to Transbaviaans. Will probably do the Energade series as well on my MTB as its draft legal... wish we had more options... :(
