Um, I'm not sure I'm qualified enough to justify an answer, but I spoke to 1 of the guys here at work who rode the Cape Epic and he said that I should not be doing any long rides 1-2 weeks before the event. His advice was to train hard and then a week before the event ...to do absolutely nothing ! I rode a 50km 2 days ago and felt good after as I didn't push myself too much. I'm just going to do a 60-70km as a last training ride and then chill till the event and the take it real easy on the day for the 1st 50km and finish strong - hope this helps

i will take a break a couple days before the race, but tone down training to gentle spinning rides.

On the day I entered I saw something about me in Cat C. Dunno how they allocate the entries.

How is your training going for K2C. Doing any looooong rides? We are planning on doing 100km on the 11th of Sept. Hope that's the right thing

My training is not going too well...

Last long one was 60km Burger...

Then mostly 25km's on weekends....This last weekend no riding as I have a bit of flu!!

Next weekend...i must get back on the saddle again...thinking of doing the 60km Staalwater on the 10Sept??

Think our last looooong ride (aiming for around 80-100km) will be on the 11th in the form of Breedt's Neck up here in gauteng (11Sept). Its a nice route with rolling hills and one monster of a climb. Havent made it to the top yet without pushing  but working hard to ride it out.

I just do two hard 60min sessions during the week on IDT and then a long ride on weekends. Please note I'm not a racing snake by any means and normally finish races in the middle lower end of the pack, think its the few extra kg's are holding me back a bit, but should be good for that one 14km downhill

Think in the two weeks before K2C I'll also tone down on the training with regards to duration (30min sessions) but keeping intensity the same and then nothing in the week before the race.

Put your spare tube in a sock...

A.Protects tube against other items inside your pack.

B.Handy rag that can be used to wipe your hands after working on chain / sealant.

I put mine in a condom. You never know what could happen.

Good IDEA! Bloody hell, the thing might breed, and one weighs a ton. Imagine opening you pack to find 5 of the things nestling in there. Add to that they will be useless for the first few weeks because they will be 20". After 9 weeks just as useless because they would have grown from 26" to 29".
