So....

After all the hype, and 25 page threads i gave 32Gi a shot this weekend. Did a bit of a Mountain bike ride, feedback is as follows:

@wolffm; I ate my usual breakfast (milo cereal +some Toast) not the best, but its my usual. Made up my bottle of 32Gi and started intake 30 mins prior to ride.

Cant say if it was hugely effective or not, but usually i take Cytogen in second half of ride. By this stage today, i was only on water, and 32Gi was done. I was still strong for rest of ride. So it works. BUT; by no means was my appetite any less than usual after a 3.5 hour ride.

So yes, its good for consistent power, but hell i was still hungry like a mofo after the ride. On a 5 hour endurance ride, I am sure 2 bottles, will show how good the stuff is.

For a 3 hour ride, to be honest, a high GI Cytogen gave me the same effect. (chemically I dont know if it was the same nutritionally and so on).

Cool product overall for ENDURANCE.

@wolffm; would you suggest using one scoop for a 1.5 cardio session (spin and run) at gym?

@Daniel, thanks for the feedback Daniel, much appreciated. Not everyone will feel stable and not hungry at the end of a ride and I can definitely not say that if you take in 32Gi you wont be hungry. There are so many factors when doing any session, which includes daily diet, pre-event etc. Your breakfast was full of sugar (just a pointer, very high GI), also you mentioned starting to take in 32Gi 30minutes before, I usually reccommend completing serving at least 30 minutes before, and then taking it in on the ride. That does not mean u need to drink 500ml, but yo can take in a concentrate it wont effect the efficacy of the drink. The going on water on the second half demonstrated the sustaining part of the drink, and thats most likely why you were hungry, if you had taken in more in the second half u would have felt less hungry. Regardless, its great to feel hungry after a session, especially after a very long endurance session, it means your levels are pretty stable and your natural appetite is there, far better than feeling nauseas after an event. Not to knock anything with sugar, but remember if you dont completely take up the glucose flood into your bloodstream and utilise it, your body will store it as fat. So one benefit you are getting with 32Gi, is you are not gaining weight and burning off some fat ;-).

all the best

Thanks for the advice. The only reason I was apprehensive to drink a full bottle pre-ride is that i hate stopping for a pee on rides, but, if as you say; i will mix up a concentrate pre-ride in the future. Gr8. Should prop cut the milo cereal out, ; i know: :(.

I'm going to keep on using the 32Gi, and I am sure it will work out gr8, I also have other factors at play such as hypothyroid (infact no thyroid) so drugs there may play a role with metabolism etc. I've just been through a period of no drugs so my body is still Normalizing again, so come MTB Stage race time, I should be good to go with 32Gi. Will keep u posted.

My PVM octane is almost done, so I bought the peach flavour this weekend.

Tastes like peach cabana, so if I ever have a craving for cabana, I'll just drink this. Really nice tasting.

Haven't done a looong ride yet. Mabilengwe Lion Man will be a good test.

Just some questions to 32GI, where I'm still skeptical:

With events up to 90min, where I'm going almost all out, won't something with a bit quicker enery release like pvm octane xtr have a better effect, or will 32gi be able to supply enough energy at a high enough rate?

Secondly, with long events, especially stage races, won't it be good to get protein in mid-ride so that you can start to recover/repair your muscles for the next ride. I'm a firm believer in protein and to take it as quick as possible after a session.

Great question, I think the below should answer it.

We have a global exclusivity agreement with our suppliers in Germany as the only company being to utilize their functional carb in an energy drink and sports supplement, and so I can release the performance testing done on elite cyclists in Germany, I have attached the summary report below, I am awaiting the comprehensive report from Germany, it demonstrates 3% faster performance over a TT, of course under the testing conditions they carried it out over, and as we know tests can be carried out in a 1000 different ways, but it was their 3rd test with the same results. From our own experience we took an elite duathlete, no sugar diet, woke him up made him drink a serving and sent him at 100% effort for as long as he could go. Two hours and 30 minutes later he fatigued, but it was an excellent test under a a very intense session and his average speed was higher than normal. We have also done stress testing on swimmers and 2 of the group achieved personal bests. Would love to see how you do on it, keep us posted, see the below:

Palatinose "makes athletes faster".

Source: Nutraceuticals International

BENEO-Palatinit, a Germany-based manufacturer of functional carbohydrates derived from pure honey and beet announced at Health Ingredients Europe the result of a new study testing the effects of Palatinose, a low glycemic functional carbohydrate.

The study, conducted at Freiburg University Clinic in Germany this year, compared the results of two groups of experienced cyclists cycling 90 minutes at submaximal steady state, followed by a time trial. One group was given a sports drink containing Palatinose and the other was given a liquid meal containing the high glycemic maltodextrin.

During the time trial the athletes that were given Palatinose performed better, showing a very clear tendency to finish one minute (3%) faster than the maltodextrin group. In sports performance, it is a difference of this magnitude that can decide about who is winning the race. Furthermore, the Palatinose group also had more sustained energy, with an especial power increase in the last five minutes of the test, and a significant higher fat oxidation and better maintenance of blood glucose levels until the end of the exercise.

Stephan Hausmanns, head of product development at BENEO-Palatinit, said: "we are pleased with these results that further re-enforce that Palatinose is the ideal ingredient for sport and energy drinks as well as for sports nutrition. This was the third study of this kind that we have carried in order to thoroughly explore the benefits of Palatinose and the valuable contribution it can make to the sports drinks market."
