I have a further thought to add to lost frog. There are all of these reports of only 1 bottle required dusing the race, but surely, even if 32GI can provide the energy requirements, you still need to replenish liquid lost through sweating to avoid dehydration?

Agreed 1000% u must always stay sufficiently hydrated.

used for the first time today, very impressed.

have been off the bike for almost 3 months due travels for work so was not expecting to feel great.

rode for about 2 hours, took a bottle of 32GI and a bottle of water. Drank a bottle on the way to the ride. Felt great the entire ride, legs a bit lacking but constant energy levels though the whole ride.

I had read about guys not being hungry after their rides, never though this would work for me cause im always hungry! ride or no ride! so went into the resurant for the normal after ride chow.....then realized I was not actually hungry.

im another convert! my buddy and i used it on a ride on sunday, we both really noticed the maintained energy levels.

normally ride on cytomax, but drank one bottle of 32gi half an hour before the ride and we were hundreds, tons of energy and NO food craving! quite an odd sensation really :)

I want to use 32gi during the Transbaviaans next week

We plan to finish in around 16hrs riding at lower than 75% of our Max Heart Rates

14hrs riding time

What would your recommended nutrition plan be?

Hi PaarlMTB, I am not familiar with the race but I assume its 16 hours of solid riding?

The drink will definitely benefit you for this kind of period, for sure, but you will also need to take in some additional calories over this period of time.

The drink basically will assist in keeping your energy levels up and balanced, it will push off the hunger for longer, and leaving you feel good. You can drink it on its own as your main base drink or even take it in with water separately, I prefer diluting to 750ml and completing a serving every 2 hours. Food to take in on route, I would suggest, peanut butter sandwiches (low Gi bread), some low Gi bars (32Gi has energy chews which are great to eat with the drink as well), also Reds make a low Gi bar which I actually went and bought and tasted i enjoyed it. I would also take sugar with, because over 16 hours if you do hit a fatigue zone its the only quick way out. Keep it as a backup. I have never ridden a solid 16 hours, my max is 8.5 hours, and on that ride I took 32Gi with only as a drink, had a sandwich at about 5.5 hours into the ride, and that was all. My 5-7 hour rides I only use the drink, and carry the chews if I feel like eating something on route.

I would really gear my nutrition for the week before and also use the 32Gi to carbo-load taking in 3 bottles day 3 days before the event. Stick with complex carbs that week, stay away from sugar and eat plenty fruit and veggies, and hydrate yourself properly each day.

Hope this helps

Hi M

14hrs of riding - 225km MTB race from Willowmore to Jeffries through the Baviaans.

I normally drink about 500ml per hour how many grams should I mix in my 750ml bottle?

How many scoops in the carboload bottle?

If your body can only absorb the 25g of Low GI carbs/hour why would you take on More?

Would it not result in Gastric distress?

As I have understood from this forum posting if you take in High GI carbs it affects your ability to use your fat as fuel and should therefore be avoided.

Yet I see the chews are a mixture of half High and half low GI carbs, and you recommend taking sugar for a boost, it is all a bit confusing - please help me understand. I really want this to work as sugar is like poison for me!!

Hi PaarlMTB, to be clearer, agreed.

Taking in high GI substances will definitely not give you the ability to tap your fat stores, just like you I avoid sugar at all costs. All I meant was if you hit the wall, which can happen in an endurance event when missing a feed etc, the only thing to get you out of that is a glucose boost, the quicker the better. You should not hit the wall on 32Gi at all as long as you take in the appropriate feeds. As for overdose our testing has shown gastric stress to occur at 200grams upwards. You need to take in 50grams per 2 hours and if you are very efficient at metabolising the carbs you can see more than 3 hours. dont rely on that unless you have tested it, we guarantee the minimum 2 hours of energy per 50grams. So thats 1 scoop per an hour, or 2 scoops per a 500ml-750ml bottle. If you drink 500ml per an hour I would still put the 2 scoops into a 500ml bottle and use a second with just plain water to keep you hydrated, however me personally I would just use the 32Gi and actually take in 1.5 scoops per a 500ml bottle, you wont overdose on that at all. You need a lot more. We had runners at Comrades taking in 50grams in a single concentrated gulp at a water table and then running only on water for the balance till the next feed.

As for carbo loading, 2-3 bottles of 500ml - 750ml (dilute to taste) and yes a single serving which is 2 scoops. So 4-6 scoops a day for carboloading, my preference is 2 bottles a day for carbo-loading, and sometimes I will throw in a 3rd depending on how im feeling. I tend to be more nutrition focussed in the days leading to an event.

If you need anything further dont hestitate to ask

Ok Mark

Thanks that makes it clearer. I will try to make sure I am taking the 50g every two hours - Incidentally why do you always use 50g per two hours instead of 25g per hour?

Some more questions in general on how you are fueled in an endurance event. As I mentioned earlier, I am really keen on the 32gi working for me, so I have done a bit of "research" (Internet trawling - dangerous I know)

What a lot of sport scientists are recommending (my understanding)is a mix of 60g of glucose and 30g of fructose per hour as that is what the athlete can digest and use per hour. 32Gi allows you to utilise your fat more efficiently as fuel but does the research show that it can provide similar amounts to the aforementioned?

In all the trawling I found references to research done at Freiburg but no actual report? Can you perhaps shed more light on the matter?

If the high Gi can provide 90g of energy per hour will it not be a better fuel than the low gi if the improved fat burning does not make up the difference between the 90 and the 25

Guys the price has not changed at all. We supply at the same price we launched at, all our retailers receive the stock at the same price and we give a recommended retail price. Our online store is more expensive because we courier across the country and we actually take a knock on the purchase, also a percentage of that online purchase also goes to The Sports Trust to support development in the country through sport.

Not sure where its gone up, but it is at retail level not us. They decide how they want to price it.

One thing to mention is our ingredients are 4 times more expensive than any other drink on the market, you are getting it at a fantastic price I promise.

I hope this helps

R189 april2010- R249 August2010

Hi Tyger

Our reccommended retail price to every retailer is R230 - R250 its never been lower. If a retailer is selling at R189 I can promise you he did a special on it as a new product and then decided to raise it on his own accord. I can also tell you at that price he never made any money.

If you take the upper end price of R250 and equate that to 40 hours of energy there is not a product on the market that can give you an hour of energy for R6.25, not even Energade or Powerade, something to consider. Knowing our ingredients are very expensive and that we can provide a product at this price to the market I think it really value for money.

Hope that helps

all the best
