1. is it possible for muscles to break down to a point where it doesnt function the way it should/optimally? en as dit die case is, wat doen 'n mens?

2. anybody here that can vouch for l-glutamin, that actually drank it for a period of time say 3 months and can say that they feel a difference, meaning their muscle recover quicker, they can cycle for longer, muscles doesnt ache so much after a long ride etc...

3. training - you can do it for 3 months and you'll feel a difference, meaning muscle recover quicker, cycle for longer...

I guess on your first point is where what you would call a "tear" in a muscle and where you have to rest for it to recover. On point 2, I don't know l-glutamin.

But don't take me too seriously, I still drink milo as a recovery drink.

with the staalwater 60km i did not do my pasta the previous evening, as i always do and also did not take any energy stuff with..i usually eat the 32gi chews, and found that it does give you that little bit extra energy to get up that hill and finish.

at about the 57th km my leg muscles just gave up! i just could not pedal anymore..as if my muscles' memory had a memory lapse! biggrin.gifwhy is that?? no strength/power/energy anything of the sort..ffs

Yep. I try not to rely on muscle memory. Cycling, Mountains, no diffs. The Brain must rule. Forget the legs. Clip the feet end to the pedals and then get the brain to override. I find 21 Guns by GREENDAY to be very effective. :D If all else fails then a fair dose of ffs's also works !

You bonked. Because you didn't take in energy, your muscles used up all the energy (glycogen) available to then and then ran out. So you stopped. Cure? Take in energy before it happens. Once it's happened, it's hard to get going again. Once again, the only solution is to take in energy - bum a goo off someone or something, but it's still gonna be a hard road to the end.

If you over train (i.e. have insufficient rest for the amount you train, your muscles will slowly break down and your rides will become harder and slower. But I don't think this is what you mean from the quoted post above - I think you're talking about the bonk?

jong ek skrik nie meer vir bulte nie,ek kan hulle ry, ma soos davetapson se..dis nou presies wat gebeur het...ek het mos nou gan oplees oor die glikogeenstore and all the rest wat uitgeput raak....ek het geen lae gi/hoe gi of enige iets gevat daai dag voor gedurende of na die tyd nie..sal nie weer daai fout maak nie..wou ook mar net sien of die energy stuff 'n "all in die mind" ding is...toe nou nie!laugh.gif ek dink ek het my les geleer...ek sal volgende jaar terug gaan en daai 60km gaan wys wie is baas!biggrin.gif
