Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if this have been posted in this thead already? Does anyone have trails for pretoria east... Maybe around Mooikloof or out on atterbury?

I used to ride frequently around Olympus area a couple of years back. Mostly dirt roads. Are you looking for singletracks specifically?

Any dirt is fine... would like to be able to do some training around this area - it's a real pain to have to go to groenies for training... I have a couple of routes I take from moreletta to mooikloof and back going through some dirt routes but would like some input from others - where they ride in the area and if it is save to ride that area...

There are a couple of routes. We usually head East on Lynnwood Road and go through Zwavelpoort back towards Atterbury Road. There are some nice steep climbs in the area. You can also go to Boschkop MTB Park if you head towards Boschkop from Lynnwood. You would recognise these roads from the nissan hazeldean race. Going to Boschkop MTB park adds some nice singletrack to your ride and adds about 30kms. There are quite a lot of options.

There are many routes (with some nasty climbs) in that area.

From Hans Strydom, take Atterbury towards Zwawelpoort. About 2km from the ‘Plant park’ the tar ends. Then its gravel all the way. There are so many roads and singletrack there. If you combine it with the other side of Lynwood, then you can easily do in access of 80km just without any tar

If you don’t know the area, I would recommend joining the Singletrack shop group rides on Saturday. They cycle in that area

I usually go down Lynnwood and left onto boschkop and left onto mooiplaats rd, then there's loads of places to go from there. Or I go past the zwavelpoort area that the guys above are talking about. There's a monster of a climb there, but dont stop when you get to the end of the dirt climb, carry on straight on the tar and theres some nice single track thru a farm at the top. I'll see if I can find some maps on my sports tracker on my phone.

Heres a map from one of my shorter rides, its not very clear but it gives you some idea of some of the areas you can ride in.

Thanks guys... had a great ride over the weekend. As I came back from Mooikloof's side there is a dirt road turning left just after that complex on your left comming down the hill, I took that road and it goes right through to delmas road! The surprise about this road is that you skip the huge uphill in devilla bois past wekker street so you have a steady climb for a couple of k's instead of that one monster!

Will keep on exploring the dirt in the area... hope to see some of you on the way!!

I took atterbury in last week, it ends in a dip at some game farm... where do you go from there? I turned around there and made my way back untill you get a dirt road going in to the left... this road then ends up at mooikloof just before the hill...

There where you turned left coming back from Mooikloof, you can turn right as well. That piece of singletrack will take you to Atterbury. You can then turn right into Atterbury and that will take you to the gravel roads of Zwavelpoort

Jip I saw that... When you get to the end of atterbury (at the gane farm or something), is there some roads that you can take towards lynnwood or should I have turned left into one of the named dirt road by then? Sorry for the dumb questions, just don't want to ride into some batch of hijacking hooligans when I take the wrong turn...

I did a few rides there when I stayed in Mooikloof.

Best bet is to cycle east after the estate passing the pub. You will get a rather killer hill. Just keep on that road till the new estate there ends, before the soil works. Just before the soil works there is a dirt road (think it goes north). If you keep on straight with that road it will become an test of skills, if they have not repaired that section.

It will turn to the east, where later on it becomes a tar road. It will end in Lynnwood. If you are not in the mood for Lynnwood you can turn right just after a (think it was) horse school. Will be a steep downhill that goes over the river. Connects to Garsfontein. Then you can just head west.

From where the gravel road starts in Atterbury, carry on for about 1km on the gravel road till you get to a massive half built house on you left. I think its Zwavelpoort estate. Turn left there. There will be about 100m of tar, but keep going down the hectic downhill. Take the first gravel road to your right. You will get to a crossing. Go over the crossing and you will find a nice technical rocky decent. At the bottom of the decent there is a ‘spruit’ go thorough it and carry on straight. You will then get to another crossing. From here you can either turn left to go back on the gravel road or carry on straight to ‘The bitch’ climb.
