Wow, 22%! Won't it be faster to run up the climb with the bike on the shoulder then? :w00t:

I did a race in Italy some years ago, where on one stage, the last 5km's of the stage had a climb with an avg of 21%. I was riding a standard crankset with a 12-25 cluster. With 1km to go i had to get off my bike, take my shoes off and walk.

I then realised why all the locals were riding with compact cranksets with minimum 12-27 clusters.

These numbers are not enough to show its difficulty of the climb.

To describe it: 26 kms out of 198 are steeper than 9% and 16 of them are steeper than 10% too.

In the final 100 kms, only 11 are flat, divided in two short sections.

looks pretty flat to me ;)

that mortirolo is going to fry the guys...

its steep! and then to make sure the guys dont get off to easy the stelvio.. which I guess if the guys have made it over the first climb will be where they make time on the other GC guys..and If anyone was going to try play it safe, its the last day to make up time, so they have to go...

Personally I think Pozzovivo might drop the guys on the Mortirolo or whatever. He looked much stronger and whilst the comentators thought he was testing the other guys when he made the pace hard on wednesday I think He just didnt have the conficence to do something the others were not doing.. which was ride away from anyone..

Unfortunately they will catch him on the downhills.. but on a stage like today he should give it a bash, he has nothing to lose..

I think the otherguys who are playing it safe will be forced to make a move then instead of just waiting till someone openes up the game.

Yeah, good point, I also fancy his chances, he is not an old seasoned pro like Basso or Scarponi so maybe he was just worried he might do something silly, even though he felt fine, which he obviously did, because when he opened up the afterburners on the last two or so Kilometers, they were all in trouble.

He is a pure climber so as you say he could lose time on the downhills and he certainly will lose time on the TT but I think if he feels good and switches on the igniters again on the final climb today, ..............he could get two or three minutes.

......I quite like him actually, he is initially hard to take seriously because he looks like a very small teenager, but he has certainly proved his mettle here.
