Garmin or Polar? wacko.gif

My RS 800 CX POLAR keeps saying "Check WearLink". Battery fine. Very frustrating. cursing.gif Seriously looking at a Garmin.

Any advice on what my POLAR's problem could be or how to fix it? Tried online searches but no luck thus far.

Polar product: S725X

When purchased: 2010-08

New/Second-hand: Second-hand

When did problem occur: After changing to full carbon bike (stem and bars too)

Describe problem: Intermitent HR readings when unit mounted on bars - changed all batteries and Wear Link strap

Describe solution: Wear unit on arm now with no problems whatsoever!

Cost involved: Unit and transmitter batteries by Polar and new Wear Link strap

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this - seems like all the carbon influences the readings

Yip, it seems to block the signal.

Polar product: S725

When purchased: 2005

New/Second-hand: New

When did problem occur: After changing to full carbon bike

Describe problem: Watch would not detect speed sensor mounted on rear triangle (needed to be rear-mounted for IDT use)

Describe solution: Swapped internal jumper on speed sensor to increase range - no joy. Tried various different positions for watch and sensor - couldn't find a position that would allow me to easily see the watch while riding. Eventually gave up and used it as an excuse to upgrade to a Garmin Edge 705.

Cost involved: None on the Polar. Upgrade cost to Edge.

Polar product: S725 - same one

When purchased: 2005

New/Second-hand: New

When did problem occur: After about a year of use.

Describe problem: Watch would not detect Wearlink HR, even after changing battery. Took it to Polar and they said the metal contacts where the HR transmitter clips to the strap were corroded.

Describe solution: Transmitter was replaced. Polar tech instructed me to detach the transmitter after every use and wipe the contacts. I was told to never store the strap with the transmitter attached. I was advised to wash the strap in the washing machine every couple of weeks. The same strap and transmitter are still going strong after many hours of gym use.

Cost involved: Replacement cost for transmitter (can't remember what it was).

I'm also a bit confused by the original post, but I guess he means Polar and not Garmin

Noobs.

He means a Garpo. All the SUV driving weekend warriors have em.

Garmin or Polar?

Probably a case of all HRM are Polars, all hydration packs are Camelbaks, all intergrated brake and shifter leavers are STIs and all MTB pedals are SPDs.

Now you're confused Bob, they're actually using Pomins

Nope. A Pomin is a new helmet cam device. They deliberately included GPS and heart rate technology to get past the UCI's no helmet cam rules.

Same problem. Buying a brand new strap fixed it ;)

Using Polar's advice I now rinse the strap after every ride and throw it in the washing machine once a week and I haven't had a problem again
