Three overs until the new ball, clocking in the runs nicely in the meantime, but then where we need to knuckle down and make it through that section to have a shot.

And I was blowing Elgars worn for his grit of which he has shown very little of so far... on the contrary, Markram has shown bucket loads.

Dean or Markram for captaincy, I reckon

Opening bat is a good fit for leadership in terms of mental stamina and resilience

Man of the match candidates:

Rizwaan - this game would be over if we caught him when he was on four, but he still had to score the runs

Hasan Ali, currently on 9 wickets. he could rip through the lower order

Aiden markram...probably not done enough

Temba Bavuma - if he can see this through to the close he'll be on about 120*, with his first innings 44 n.o

George Linde - if he is required to bat and does well then, given the context of his injury he could sneak it.

test cricket is awesome

Preservation of wickets is now all that matters.

Can we emulate the Indians in their 4th innings chase at the Gabba earlier this year?

Keep the over rolling by and then go for it once the overs start running out....

That would be the smart way to do it.

However it requires a big partnership from Temba and Wiaan!
