Tremendous fightback, despite several inexperienced players, after some supporters had feared a 0-3 series loss against an excellent Indian team.

One hopes that vd Dussen (33.80) and Bavuma (33.79) and Markram (36.53) will dramatically improve their batting averages, just not good enough for top order batters.

he needs to get his mojo back.

after 10 games, he had 1000 runs, with 4 centuries and 3 50s for an averaged of ~55. this included 7 games against aus+ind.

since then, 19 games with an average of 26 and just a single century.

"I think that is disgraceful from the Indians.   Virat Kohli is a legend of the game, but that’s not the way to act, that is not the way to act in a game of Test match cricket.  The ICC have to stamp this down, they have to stamp down on the Indian side, you can’t get away with talking down the stump microphone like Ravi Ashwin has done and the Indian captain has done.”  -  Michael Vaughan

Love it... Makes the victory soooo much sweeter.

But yeah don't think any action will be taken, India part of big3 running the show.

Keen to hear some of your insights @gemmerbal(i hope i got the right person)

@gemmerbalis not a fan of indian cricket at large, i think he will be justifiably in the pub till tuesday!

The match referee Pycroft could still report them on it.

What happens from then who knows, but to have capt, vice cpt and a senior player talking into the stump mic with allgeations is not something the ICC want going forward - and i don't think the BCCI top brass will be impressed either.

there could also be some slow over rate penalties coming too.

A couple games on the domestic circuit in the hopes that that gets him in the right headspace? If yes, who would you open with Elgar? Personally I would let Markram get some runs in the four day comp and give Erwee a run. At this point he probably won't do any worse than Markram. And I'm saying that as an unabashed Markram fan.

Agreed 100%! I have a rather large looney grin on my face because Kohli's got to swallow that his team lost to one that's seen as being weaker than his one. His outbursts and that of Rahul and Ashwin shows just how aware they are/were that they were meant to be the series winning team. I kinda expect that there's going to be celebrations long into the night by the Proteas.

I reckon both had decent series against the Indians. Neither did justice to their potential but they made contributions basically every innings and I'm sure Mark & Dean will be on them to produce more. Bavuma should be chuffed with the way he helped get us over the line at the Wanderers and at Newlands but he needs to do more for sure.

As far as the batting goes I am really really impressed with how well Petersen has gone. I said before he made his debut that I reckon he's a quality player. So stoked that he has had a great series and a worthy Man of the Series winner.

Also extremely impressed with what I've seen from Marco Jansen. He just looks the part as well.

Im not a big fan but I also don't have issue with Markram. I do feel that if there is no1 really pushing for his spot, then rather give him some time to find form. He isn't the oldest bloke and at 27 he already has decent experience. Would prefer him finding some form.

Look forward to see ODI team go and hoping Hamza and Malan get a run or 3

Yep, he looks the real deal and the variation he brings (and obviously 19 wickets in 3 games) , you almost cant leave him out of this attack.

I still maintain Rabada is not firing 100s. Apart from the no-balls which there is no excuse for, he looked a bit inconsistent at times. Yes he took bucket loads of wickets and arguably man of series contention. Maybe just me.

Add in Nortje and this bowling unit is going to cause some serious problems for teams all around the world.

Good point w.r.t. Markram.

I reckon Malan will definitely get a go. He does seem to have nailed himself the other opening batter berth in the ODI team. Wouldn't mind seeing Hamza get to have a go as well. He is another guy who has potential to be a long term prospect.

All I know is, is that poor Victor Mpitsang is going to have a hard time nailing down who makes up our first choice bowling unit. We seem to have a fair few really good options especially where the quicks are concerned. All told this is one area we seem to be in rude health in.

And I don't find this in the least bit surprising and that includes the quotes attributed to Kohli in the article.

SA vs India 3rd Test - No formal charges filed against India for Newlands DRS bust-up (espncricinfo.com)

Shameful imo. I don’t know about any other sport in which players or management are permitted to falsely imply or claim dishonesty or cheating (edit: by officials).  Decisions can be criticised, but for the Indian team to falsely claim cheating?

I think a big part of the problem is that India tours and the TV rights for said tours generate a great deal of money for the various broadcasters and boards hence the ICC's soft approach. There's a tendency to forget that India needs the countries they tour in as much as those countries need them. So the whole goose gander analogy should very much apply but unfortunately the money is doing the talking here. As much as I enjoy watching Kohli bat I will not be shedding a tear when he retires as his conduct has largely been that of a spoilt brat in need of a hiding. The fact that he and AB are such good friends lowers my opinion of AB a good deal too.
