Dont have the time to read every page, so if it has been mentioned, aplogies.

So, does anyone know where to get a Chase-Durer special forces watch here in SA, is the brand available here? My son has his heart set on one.

That watch is about R10k.

Why not rather look at getting him a Tag F1?

He wants the Chase-Durer as its different. Yes, that price sounds ok, but just curious if you know if there is anyone in SA that sells them? Thank you Gummibear

I could never understand why mechanical watches are so expensive and with some you can buy a house at Clifton. I thought I'll share some info bellow, hope you find it interesting.

There are some nice free apps to download for your phone (iphone), especially understanding minute repeaters and how they are put together, or the Chinese calendars, perpetual calendars, etc.

Infographic: Evolution of the Luxury Watch

http://blog.perpetue...e-luxury-watch/

"This interesting infographic was put together by The Watch Gallery which is based in the UK. The challenge with timelines such as these is what to include and what not to include (a lot has happened in watchmaking over the last couple hundred years!). I immediately noticed some notable brands and innovations that were missing — Vacheron Constantin (1755), Breguet, and the invention of the tourbillon (patented 1801) for example. So yes, it is a bit selective, but still some interesting history is reflected."
