Good point you have there. Taxis will soon eliminate themselves and their passengers. Look at all the road accidents they are having. Another one crashed into the wall near Steenberg the other day. I see that as another taxi off the road. Super stuff. These guys are killing machines. The quicker they kill themselves the better for me.I cannot feel sorry for their passengers anymore as these guys could prevent this if they stood up against the drivers. They don't. Simply put the sooner each one writes themself off the happier I become.

I find the passengers as much to blame, they hail down taxis anywhere.

eeiissh taxis..... I have a theary that if everyone occupied the yellow lanes like taxi drivers do, then where would the taxis go??? Myself and a handfl of cars do this on a certain stretch of road, lets face it, it is quicker than sitting in the q. However if everyone did it, then there would not be a mini bus speeding pass us, instead everyone would be waiting. Pity the masses wont do this

/Morning rant on/

After seeing again this morning how taxis drive and their lack of respect to the traffic rules.

I was thinking about this thread....

I have a question....

Why is that hubbers/cyclist get involved when another cyclist breaks the law and then the feel that they have to do/say something or report them....BUT I see no reaction from drivers when Taxis do what they want to.

I shouted at a taxi..."you are not allowed to do that" only to get the response "f*** OFF, are you traffic?"

So maybe I am missing something, but has thehub become a place to come and express your view, ie hit the soft target?

I am yet to see a cyclist do as much damage as a taxi, normally the cyclist looses anyway.....so could we all either stop the bashing of fellow cyclist OR apply the same rules to ALL users of the road?

BTW don’t tell me you reported a TAXI...you and I both know that reporting anything to the traffic department is a waste of time. They want to make the easy money NOT enforce safety.

The standard taxi comes equipped with an AK47 or stolen nine mill. What are you going to be shouting back with??? Peppaspray? ..... Stupitt rant and stupitt post.

I occasionaly use the taxis along Main Rd between Claremont and Mowbray in Cape Town. Yes, they are a law unto themselves, yes they are annoying to other drivers (including me), yes they are a menace to cyclists (including me), but they are bloody efficient at moving people. They probably move more people more cheaply than anyone else. Without them our country and our businesses cannot function. It is futile to get angry at them, just accept the reality and drive/ride defensively to take their eratic behviour into account. In my neck of the woods, I see the traffic police regularly confronting taxis, so they are doing something. (How's that for a different viewpoint, open-mided Hubbers?)

By Why then get angry with a cyclist doing the same thing?

Man, are you for real? Expect a vrot Naartjie on your windscreen if you pass me driving in the yellow lane while I patiently wait in the q.

Do you do the same with Taxis? Or just with soft targets?

So that makes it ok for them to do what they want to? So you saying it is NOT about the road rules, but more about lets shout / hoot at the cyclist because he will not shoot us?

Then my friend, you are spineless. So stop moaning about cyclist breaking rules....if you are not prepared to apply that moan the ALL road users rather dont say anything......

shouting = Do you mean shooting?

Peppaspray = Do you mean pepper spray?

Stupitt = Do you mean stupid?

Confront a taxi in the traffic and you will be surrounded by drivers from other taxis all waving sjamboks.

Their approach is to be aggressive and intimidate everyone onto backing down.

The passengers are also **** scared of saying anything about the driver's behaviour or driving skill technique.

They sit in silence as they overtake on blind rises and over white lines into on coming traffic. They say nothing when the driver finishes a Cape Town to East London route, has a p!ss and a KFC and gets back in to do the return leg with no sleep.

Of course these people are self righteous hypocrites who have no intention to follow through. The taxi driver is right, unless you are able and prepared to do something about it, the just mind your own business. A friend of mine was beaten into intensive care by taxi drivers when he tried to be a hero on the M1 once. How did that help him, or anyone else for that matter?

This is by far the most vile comment I've read. It's insane actually. What kind of person would write this I wonder? What about the 10 children killed the other day when a taxi jumped a level crossing? What about their families? You are obviously so lucky that you don't need to catch taxis or see your kids off in one each day. I feel sad for this country. It's people who say things like this that means there's no hope for this place. Really sad. You have no idea how most people live.

I know that this is what happens, but my question is,....Why allow some people do what they want and then have LOTS to say and threaten others?

So where are the hubbers that say " the law is the law"? Seems to me the "the law is the law, when you are a cyclist(soft target)"

You are right, what gets me...if a car driver get involved with a taxi....other taxi drivers will stand by him/ assist him.....you know what the rest of us do? Drive away. Hence your friend ended in hospital

Can you think for one moment....if other drivers could stand together....you block a taxi, he jumps out and the next moment he is surrounded by 20 people? Maybe that will cause them to start thinking "i cannot do what I want to as there will be people doing something" Well I can only dream......

You see, they KNOW no-one will do anything...so they do what they want to....

I have also experienced this.

As well  ... had one or two moments but more often than not theres been a friendly wave of hands in apology.

Now for other motorists it's generally the other way around, notably soccer moms and gents in their luxury saloon cars.

Are you NOT getting it...I am saying stop moaning about the cyclist on the road.....it has nothing to do with us.....

If we are moaning because the break road rules, then we should moan about everyone that breaks the rules....we don't....so we should stop moaning.....

There is a number to call in Cape Town to report Taxis. A while ago my wife complained about a sudden increase of Taxis on the Durban rd, Durbanville. They were like hooligans, driving in the yellow line, stopping anywhere and everywhere, pushing in, (in other words, "normal" Taxi behaviour). She phoned the number and reported a specific Taxi that was hassling her every morning.

Great was her surprise when a couple of days later there was a major road block at the "Rose Garden", targeting the Taxis. Ever since, she says it is a pleasure to drive on Durban rd.
