Hello Guys

 

I went tubeless about 2 mounts a go. Is there a scale of sum sort where you can see

how meany bar's your tyres need 2 be according 2 your weight? I am heavy... 111kg's.

The one guy at the shop i did my conversion said tubeless should not go over 2bar's

but another guy at another bike shop said i must run my back tyre at a min of 2bar's cos of my weight.

 

What bar's must my tyres be at? front 1.8bars and back 2bar's? And what is the min and max for tubeless?

 

 

bike: hard tail 26

tyres: Xkings continental

trails: WC.. lots of sand and small rocks.

Id like to know which shop it was that said you should not inflate over 2 bar. Personally I never run less than 2 bar, usually 2.3 bar. Only when conditions are exceptionally sandy would I run 2 bar.

 

Running a too low tyre pressure risks damaging the tyre bead especially when going over rocky terrain and/or doing drops etc. Rather get a fatter tyre and run a higher pressure.

Tyre pressure should be terrain dependent. If there is the slightest chance that a rock will cause the rim to bottom out against it, up the pressure.

 

I can see why people want to ride with tyre pressure as low as possible - traction is good then.

 

However, a dented rim could spell the end of your ride or race. With new-tech rims such as Stan's rims that don't have a long sidewall, a dent could spell the end of the rim. Older rims absorb the impact in the sidewall, which can be bent back by a skilled mechanic. Stan's rims absorb the impact directly in the rim cavity.

I am 98kg and still run 1.8-2bar, but it is tricky now as on some seated climbs with dips in them i bottom out. so at 110kg i would say run between 2 and 2.2 bar depending on tire.

 

My rule of thumb is if I bottom out seated on a climb grinding I am probably just under pressure. When going down I am normally out of the saddle so a the legs are also part of the shock system so not much of an issue there.

It was a shop here in the cape. don't want 2 name names. Think he may have been one of the young guys that helps out now and then.
