Hey guys and girls!

I have been wondering is the only major difference between a roadbike and cyclocross bike the knobbly tyres? or is there major differences in the frame/fork etc?

would appreciate your opinions!

thanks

You can try but the mud will clog up your brakes and you will need a compact crank.I think a normal road carbon fork will break.

CX forks are stronger and have cantilever brakes.

The BB is also a little higher than on a road frame.

Quite a bit:

- chainstays are further apart to accommodate wider tyres;

- head angle is more relaxed to make steering surer;

- BB is higher for greater clearance;

- cabling runs along top tube rather than under BB to avoid mud;

- front fork and wheels are heavy duty;

- brakes are traditionally cantilever, but discs are now allowed.

That's pretty much it....

Agree with the rest, but this I have questions.

A steeper head angle equates to a sharper turn in, so I don't understand the term "surer".

Guys took the awesome, classic, 4 spoke spinergy's off their road bikes and slapped em on cx bikes, and still use em in cx long after the road banning.

Those are still great wheels but only have one big fault......those those damn sharp edges on the spokes.I saw a girl cut her foot at a triathlon a few years back.Then again i have seen even worse cuts from chain rings in crashes.

the frame geometry is more relaxed as a whole to.

I am riding a CX bike that has a 74deg seat angle,73 deg head tube and fork rake of 45mm.The chainstay is a little longer than my road bike,so compared to a TT bike it is relaxed :D ;)

Yeah, that's why they got banned for road racing by uci. They are still awesome wheels.

I have a CX, use it to commute and use it on the indoor trainer in the winter months. Usually it has a classic frame instead of compact, the standard crank they come out with are weird ratio's so I put a compact crank on mine. Do all my training through December on it and love it. It climbs like a dream and is not to heavy for a aluminium frame
