Running a Maxxis Ikon Exo 2.2 front and a Ritchey WCS Shield 2.1 rear, both tubeless. The Ikon seems rock solid and shows no signs of wear after 2 months with lots of riding. The Ritchey got a small sidewall puncture but the Stans sealed it. I really like the Ikon for its got a smooth transition leaning the bike over making it very nice for high speed cornering and wears very slowly, and it only weighs 575g.

Had endless problems with the Ritchey RCS not sealing after punctures, could not get the plugs to seal, they pop out

especially in hot weather, have replaced them with Crossmark Lust's and what a pleasure great for long miles no

puncture issues!

Can anybody explane what difference tyre width makes on a 29er wheel. Ex 29 x 1.95 vs 29 x 2.0 vs 29 x 2.2 etc. Is it only more volume giving a softer ride or what? Kom julle slimkoppe daar buite, help 'n bietjie!

IMO,

Broader, yes more volume, but not always. EG Conti Race Kings 2.2 vs Schwalbe Racing Ralps 2.25.

Fitted on the same rim, the top (width) profile close to the same, BUT the longitudinal profile is the "suspension" issue (from your rim up to where the tread runs).

I found that the Schwalbe RR runs more "skittish" that the Conti Race kings due to a lower volume profile from the rim to the running surface, and feels to be riding "harder" than other higher longitudinal volume tyres (conti and Geax).

Still run the RR, prefer them die to sidewall durability and weight.

My advice, try the tyres if you can.

My 2 cents

Wider = softer ride.

Narrower = lighter bike and wheel setup.

Narrower = cheaper tire (some brands).

Wider = better grip.

Wider = a little better protection of sidewalls from rocks because the the sidewall is at a greater angle.

Wider = BETTER rolling resistance - this is according to research by Scwalbe and is counter intuitive. This only applies on offroad terrain, the reverse is true on tar roads.

Oh yes, almost forgot of the INCREASED grip with increased tyre width...

Schwalbe racing ralph EVO , AAARRRGGGG will never ride these things again , second time I have tried them. once on a 26" and now on my 29er . at a moderate pace they are fine but once you put the hammer down and start hitting corners hard and fast they are diabolical . In the words of a good friend they will be burnt for their sins.

FYI , road at Groenkloof then at fountains with them .they suck!

I have ridden the Continental Race King rear and Mountain King front on my 29er, I have had 2 side wall cuts in the rear but I'm sure that could happen on any tyre? I am considering changing the rear to a X King for more grip as Sabie is often wet, any comments?

I am using the Racing Ralph snakeskins and have had 2 impact punctures on the rear. Pressures that I am running is 2.2bar. What pressures should I possibly be running?

Can't wait to raplace my Racing Ralphs Evo with Maxxis Aspen (F) and Ikon ® both Exceptiono, my dad has this combo and only one puncture in a year @ 105kg, lasts long!

Raced Sabie classic in the wet on race kings front and rear , i rate them as one of the best all round tires.

Hey Iron

I love my Race Kings too,

Do you run yours tubed or tubeless???

I had sidewall cutting issues with the RK tubeless.

Now with tubes in my SS.
