Yeah, think your best bet is to contact Momsen directly.

Either way I think you can get a really good deal on a couple of brands really, at the 9k mark it's one of the more competitive areas for 29rs. So there plenty good options out there, Momsen, Scott, Merida, Silverback etc ...

Gotcha. The hunt is back on unsure.png

I've done a bit of research myself on 29ers and considering the price you are paying, I think you are getting a good buy. Most 29ers in the R8 k bracket are equiped with Altus/Acera. The Silverback has Deore 10speed.

Silverback are known for their good quality at good prices. I would buy it if I was you.

As the others above, I am a Momsen fan as they are also good value for money and they are proudly South African.

Bridge cycles 021 715 0732 in CPT have 2011 Merida Matts lite 1000 at about the same price and would say this is the better option but then again seems you after a 29er and this bike is a 26er.

And it looks hotter than the silverback.

I must say I am pretty partial towards the Scott - always liked the look of them. But the Scott Comp has Alivio groupset where as the S'back has Deore.

The Scott Team looks the better spec with the Rockshocks/Deore combo - but more expensive.

I'll check the prices on the Sott Team again - might be some 'post xmas' deals out there.

Quite honestly, I think if you save a bit more and look at the Momsen 329 I think. It's R9800 or so and practically unbeatable value for money at that price.

If you do go second-hand, try Avron at Cycle Traders, 268 Main Road, Woodstock. Phone 021 448 0812. Email casirin@mweb.co.za

Don't know if he'll have 29ers yet though ... but I got my Ti roadbike from him for a damn good price and have been immensely happy with it.

Do not go near Neil's Wheels in Plumstead.

Just doing some research. I'm not all that clued up on the various components so any feedback would be great.

The attached image shows the components from the Vida and the recommended Momsen model.

In my mind (which may be incorrect), the items in green are are the better spec on the Vida and the one in Red is the 'winner' on the Momsen. Where nothing is highlighted the components are either the sam or I don't know which is better.

If I'm correct, the 'only' thing better on the Momsen is the weight.

Is my very limited knoweldge of components incorrect - have I missed something?

For 29'ers to be effective they need light, strong wheels. Which makes it (in my opinion) a bad buy in that price bracket. Rather get a 26'er or increase your budget.

[Dons flame retardant jacket and takes cover]

lol - no flames from me but I'm sure others will have an opinion thumbup1.gif

Your point is makes perfect sense - my question is, surely the wheels (rim's) are one of the easier components to upgrade going forward?

The Suntour Raidon is an air fork from what I've been told - or am I mistaken?
